Dear Users,
we wish You all the best for holidays, hope you can relax a bit, and also we wish you a good start into the new year 2012!
as a small thank you to all of you i made a first new VRAYforC4D preview scene pack v1.0.
it uses a hdr, GI and real area lights. they arent specially optimized for speed, target was for quality material feedback, to help producing better materials.
feel free to download, please note for the previews you need version c4d v12 or v13.:
DOWNLOAD free Material Preview Scenes (http://securebucket.s3.amazonaws.com/V_Previews.zip)
i hope you like the new material previews, to install simple unzip then and place the 12 c4d files and the jpg files in the "MAXON/Cinema4d 13/libary/materialpreview" folder and restart c4d.
what is coming in nearer future -2012 will be a quite exiting year for all VRAYforC4D users:
we intense work on the 2 free promised updates 1.3/1.5, they are coming closer, the first DR buckets are rendering within c4d full .vrscene native format (even in editor), and the new high end multipass system is growing and growing, most channels ready. all is full vrscene native now which enables things like native V-Ray shaders (also from maya, xsi & max), DR, and is the base to make RT work within c4d for 2.0 later this year.
with best greetings from the VRAYforC4D Team!

is .vrscene coming for this update ? 1.5 - 1.3 ? so if i have a file right now at .vrscen in cinema i can just go ahead and "open it" in 3ds max ? ... this more exiting than i thought !

yes vrscene is in 1.5 yes as save option.
the thing is that max and maya do not yet have a vrscene import function. but will get in future most likely. i certainly will push that.
right now you will be able to render content from max, maya and c4d on the same render system/farm using the same standalone render nodes p.e. output is identical on all 3 then, artists can used mixed environments, result will be same- what will come as first step is also an import/export of materials saved in vrscene format.
in future when vrscene files will be also able to be imported to c4d, max, maya (more later 2012) this might be a superb way to work cross platform. but thats not in near (1.5) time range yet.

you want feedback stefan .... well, the material preview scenes are great :) I love them, and they are much better than those of c4d...especially the sphere which I use often, and now is covering the whole window :)
Peace,
Kobi

Just played around with the new previews. They are superb!!!
One suggestion: maybe a shrink wrap would be better on the logo preview

i want to make my own preview scenes, so can i ask you...
how do you judge if there is too less or too much light in the preview scene?
i guess the lightning in the preview scene should be in a way normalized,
so that 80grey diffuse looks almost white, and 1-5%black diffuse is still visible and not just black.
but specular also has its influence etc...
the point is not to make wrong (too bright or dark) materials because of a badly lit previewscene.
how do you approach this?

i also have a question .. why some scenes have 1.0 gamma instead of 2.2 ?

Thanks a lot, but - silly question - where do I find the preview scenes after installation?
Best wishes for 2012

you find the scenes in the materials, same as all other c4d material previews....
a good start into new year to all!

distributed rendering
rendering ONE image on more than 1 computer

Really looking forward to that. We do that at the mo, but it's a manual process - requires a few extra clicks and a final photoshop stitch.

first c4d DR tests are working here in our labs, we even did a test over internet. some work has still to be done though .

Remote DR rendering over the interweb? Now that would be completely and utterly awesome!!!
the ability to send still and animated rendering from my home office to my head office and utilise all cores possible would be heaven!
stefan
02-01-2012, 12:35 PM
well i have to say while possible, this isnt really efficient. it was more a test on slow latency networks. you needed very very fast internet connections to make that reasonable.

And i always thought "DR" means "Disturbing Rendering"
because of that, i thought i was having this feature since i use vray......
stefan

DR is coming along good, but still yet work on shaders, tuning and be coordinated with new mp.

Hi Stefan,
is it possible to make the buckets like in AR3. For example when 7 cores/threads are ready, they continue rendering on the last bucket?
sorry for my English.
cheers Paulus

Reduce the bucket size in vray system tab, this way you'll get less idle cores.

Yes, thats right, but when you render a huge sequence........
Every little bit counts. ;)
See it as a proposal.

Yes thats easy to make i guess, i think vlado has it on its plan.
But best us to have small buckets, vray is very optimized for samll buckets. they are more efficient than bigger ones in mist setups. This brings more. But we add that too if wanted. In few situations it can give some tiny extra.
For real speed advantage use small buckets , that works good in vray.best with good aa and no extra filter.
