Hi all,
my friend, Daniel Pistelli, compiled for me a little utility that allow to address 4Gb of ram instead 2 on Xp 64 with all 32bit applications.
The use is very easy. Just download the utility and select the c4d executable.
The software will make a backup for you.
In case of problem you can switch back deleting the current executable and rename the .bak one.
Daniel is waiting for feedback and experiences of use.
you can reach the tool here:
http://ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php
I think that you can make a try with this great little utility.. because will allow you to use twice polys in the scene :)
this is a free software and so it is given without warranties, this means the use of this tool is at your own risk. I take no responsilbity for any damage that may unintentionally be caused through its use.
Cheers
Renato

Thanks Renato..
When I got my 2GB back, I'll try this.
I ordered 2GB xtra. But 1GB was corrupt. So I send it back to Kingstone. :) The RMA is accepted and now I'm waiting to get a new set of 2GB...
Peace,

Hi Renato, & thanks for this!
I have a question...what if I had a system using XP64 (or Vista64) & wanted to install 6 or 8 gigs of RAM. Would this utility allow using all of it?
thanks,
Mark

Hello :)
A 32bit applications can virtually address 4Gb of ram but in XP32 2Gb are for the System.
In the 64bit environment it's possible to address 4GB of ram (32bit limit) so the patch just allow this :)
So if you have 16Gb this patch can only allow to address 4Gb of ram. The 64bit release will address all 16Gb.
Daniele is working hard on the 64bit system but before the release... will be good for Xp64 users to address 4Gb instead 2 :)
Let me know if it's ok for you all.

I have another question Renato,
sorry if this is already covered.
Can I use a 32bit plug-in (ie Fast & Fur!)
inside 64bit Cinema4D/Xp64bit?
I understand 'external' 32bit programs will work of course.
Thanks, Mark

Hello,
you can't use 32bit plugins with c4d 64bit.. sorry :(

Just opened a scene with a million polys and some significant animation (viewing with full goroud shading and all my materials) with the patch. Playback was almost real time. Prior to the patch, I would drop frames and couldn't preview the animation at all.
Seems to work great!
Thanks so much for this.

just want to know,
I'm getting my new P.C. this morning. It's a 64 bit machine.
Do i install Cinema 4D 64bit or 32 bit(because VRay is 32 bit?)
I'm not sure.
choppir, i think if you install cinema v 10, you have one install. file, that will install both, 32 and 64 bit versions. you can choose, which one you will start and work with.
so, if you want to work with vray, you have to choose the 32 bit vers.

That is correct. 1 install will get 2 C4D versions a 32bits and a 64bits. :)
Peace,

I have Vista 32bit, and 4GB RAM.
How would I get it to use all of it?
there is no way to do that. i think there is still the 3gb switch for vista, but that's all. the only way is to go for 64bit.
btw - i use xp32 pro with the 3gb switch and system tab shows 3.5gb usable.
the highest amount one program ever used was 2.6gb.
i see a lot of people warning about the /3gb but for me it works perfect (q6600 on gigabyte p35-ds4)

I'm on Vista 32bit.
and I've got 4GB RAM.
3.2 of it shows, dunno how much each app can use.
I want to try this switch, but Vista has no boot.ini =[
I think the only way is through the control panel, but I can't change, add, or remove entries =[

if it shows 3gb, 3.2gb or 3.5gb depends on the motherboard. some do the remapping better than others.
but you'll never be able to use the full 4gb without a 64bit os.
i read that there is some /pae switch for vista, but that seems to bring a lot of compatibility issues along and is generally not the way to go.
i'll stay with xp32 pro for another while and when vray64 is out i'll do a gentle switch via dualboot to xp64.

On the CG Talk forum Srek had responded to the use of the patch tool as
not knowing what it did, since C4d 32 bit under Windows 64 will access up to 4gb of memory and has had this ability since version 8.
If this is the case, do we really need to use this patch?
Tenker

So this patch will be useful if you have 4 GB of RAM.
If I have 8 GB, it will also read only 4 GB, correct?
Any chance of making this work also with 8 GB? :)
BerTiN03
06-12-2008, 02:17 PM
Correct Tenker.
You should have 128 GB, for a 32 bit applz, the patch could allow 4GB only for the applz.
The better way to use 8GB with vrayforC4D is to wait the next update !

just a question, how bout if i only have 2 gigs ram on my machine?
ZuluQ

well, ur pc only gets 2 gb of ram, no matter what, so, buy another gb or 2 gb, its a good investment .

just ran the patch on C4D. i pressume this will automatically effect vray too being as vray hasn't its own .exe file?
and i can run the patch on any .exe file? and i only need to patch it once only?
stefan

yes it is enough to patch the c4d file.
cheers

Hello boys,
I have a question from you, I downloaded the pach and I applied correctly on file c4d.exe ...
I have a computer with Os Win x64 with 8gb of ram ... usually when trying to put my rendering scene, most often complex and unwieldy, because of vegetation 3d, I exceeds 4gb virtual memory and then I check out a mistake (as picture).
I thought that with the application of pach could solve this problem but unfortunately I have not changed anything ...
there is some parameter that I could set my computer, not to exceed the limit or have to resign myself and wait "Vray x64"?
many thanks boys
