hi all, here's some tests to try to get use to setting up a scene in vrayforc4d, the scene had been kindly given by SHTL with which we had tested AR Gi 2 years ago on a thread on the frenchcinema4d user forum
on radiosity

so here it goes
first off all, the AR one for comparisons purpose

http://perso.club-internet.fr/mrtomtom/radroomAR.jpg

then with vrayforc4d

setting low

http://perso.club-internet.fr/mrtomtom/vraylow.jpg

setting med

http://perso.club-internet.fr/mrtomtom/vraymed.jpg

setting med but with dof and bokeh (not that relevant here) i wanted to see the impact on rendertimes

http://perso.club-internet.fr/mrtomtom/vraymeddofbok.jpg

setting high

http://perso.club-internet.fr/mrtomtom/vrayhigh.jpg

everything ran on an octo 3Ghz

the set up is only a vraytag with physky and sun with GI
i had convert all mat and made the setup in approximatly 1h30-45 the scene had multiple slot filled with things vray wouldnt like ( banzi and so on)

kuddos to the dev team once more, thanks to fluffy, ive been waiting for that soft...
finally here it is :D

Wow! Interesting, interesting. This is good post. It is great how the textures popped out with VFC. Regarding the VFC pics, what happened to the beams and their shadows (visible through the window)? They look like double images. Comped in psd?

Your AR GI settings are interesting, too. The 200% Strength (100% usually) and 30% Accuracy (70%-90% usually); the Diffuse Depth setting of 6 (1-2 usually); and the 1:2 Min/Max settings (I thought 1:5 - 1:10 was more the normal range). Yet, it only took 4m44s to render! Are these your normal settings that have worked well for interiors?

Cheers,

Leonard

thanks but its just a simple test on a scene to check the engine, subpixel isnt active and my knowledge of vray is near 0.

concerning the AR setup, i just uped the setting that were in the scene provided a bit ( the min max) i usually dont go that far in the min max, but the scene needed it (avoiding the maximum of splotch)

concerning the beam, there isnt any beam in the scene and i know that some map and mat could be better

interesting tests, but i must admit, i much prefer the AR render.

I think nycL45 is reffering to the beams / briese soleil you can see through the window -that have a ghosting effect - but it could actually be more accurate. With the AR render that is an impressive time but the materials are really optimised for it in the way that it is hard to pick up splotches on concrete - look at the shadow and colour bleed off the red glass bottle to the left, i bet if this was a white model it wouldn't look too clean with those settings!! on a purely engine comparrisson you can clearly see the vray one on medium settings is much cleaner than the AR one and less merky.

But the jump between medium and high times is huge - for what at a glance is a marginal improvement that you might expect to perhaps double the render time rather than send it through the roof

hi vesale,
is very difficoult to compare 2 engine with a scene like this for me.
how about the light setup in the tow scene?
is the seem?
is the scene in correct units scale (best is cm)?
because the dof is not very visible. the AA result is very strange, preaps a subdivision problem on shadows?

this is my first comparsion during de betatesting
AR 9 arealight, 4H render time (4000x3500)

Vray 1 sun 1 area and vray quality and speed 31mn rendertime

ok, theres a postglow effect with AR, so that must give that kind of beam effect :D

concerning scale and such i must admit i didnt watch, i usually do for my business project but this scene was kindly provided so i was pretty straightforwad to test the engine

Strat, i see what seems appealing in the AR render, its quite saturated and most volume are crisp almost illustrative, but i can assure you that the ceiling texture helps a lot not to perceived the splotches ;)

the light setup is simple, in AR its an hdri with one infinite light ( and a small omni)
in Vray its an infinite light with a light tag on, physky and sun active

the dof isnt visible, the scale isnt correct i 'll run a proper test later, but i lacked the time to create one from scratch and was eager to check the soft :)

the vray beams not the AR beams!

Vesale, the beams he is referring to are the wooden beam seen through the windows on the Vray renders (les poutres).
They appear not blurred by DOF, but more doubled/ghosted.
Might be an issue with refraction or ghosting of the material?
Can you check without the DOF to see if it has issues through that glass material?

what i'll try is simply to move the camera that could be something in the reflection, but has you know fluffy, i'm kinda busy these days and wont be able to run a test for some days :)
