Hi,

I tired to use the Projector shader, but everytime I use it, I only get strange results.
Is it my fault, or does Projector simply not work with Vraymaterials?

best,
Walli

it works i used it often...

hmm, not for me.

On the left a regular material, on the right the same, but with Projector "inbetween"

can anyone confirm the problem?

i look it into it.

i use projector often and with my setups i didnt had any problems.
maybe you use it in another way.

thanks for file:-)

hi walli,
can i ask, just that i understand why you use uvw for the main projection and also uvw in projector?

it works if you set another projections that the one in the material tag.
anyway i will ask renato to look for this special setting.

well, normally I would usw UV 1 1 for the material for example. This means, I could use gradients or painted bitmaps as mask on the terrain.

The textures of course have to be repeated many times, so inside diffuse channel I would use Projector with UV tiling set to 30 and 30 for example.

Very common I thought. But in the meantime I will set the projector to Flat, this should roughly do the job

Thanks for the hint!

best,
Walli

hmm.

i also just realized that projector is not working with Vray.

can anyone else confirm this?

stefan, are you sure you "use it all the time"?

yes i am very sure, projectior is use often for frontal mapping of scratch maps, but i have a newer verison vray than you....maybe it had problems in older version with uvw, the other porjectors surely worked in 1.0876.

What's projector used for? Looks like all it does is put a texture on to a surface.

cinema4d misses the ability to use different mapping per material channel(maxon promosed me to add this in future).
to overcome this there was projector shader made by good old bhodinut. maxon bought bhodinut and their great shader set some time ago. you use projector to have a special mapping for colorchannel and another for bump channel p.e.

Projector is pretty anusable, it's not seen in the viewport but only after render. So, it's pain in the ... to set up anything with Projector.

yes thats why i urgently suggested phillip from maxon to bring us a possibility to choose projections on per channel basis, he said yes he understand this is important and will come:-)

ok so what am I doing wrong. I have a plane, I break the plane and add a texture to it (uv mapping) via projector. In c4d it works great. Once converted to Vray it's a jumble of pixels.

uv map(the other projections do work for sure) maybe is the only one that does not work with projector yet in 1.0876 i cant remember, but that can be indeed.

ahha.

well that hurts. i pretty much UV map everything due to the stacking limitations in vray.

stefan

well, cant help then sorry.

stacking is only limited with selection tags by the way(thats a technical limit). so if dont need selection tags you can stack anything as you like. might help you this?

p.s i personally do normally uv map all channels i need to uvs(per material projection setting) ,this is much easier for me, and then i use the projector only for those that do not use uv-
that might be the reason i never had a problem with projector. but of course we look inti that...

as the matter of fact ; ) stacked materials works.
Check this scene ; ) 3 selections - diffrent mapping ; )

yes, selections works yes with different projections, also stacking, but not both at the same time. thats a technical limitation.
