what's the trick to achieve a light emitting material?

Looking at the manual, it seems as simple as activating the luminosity layer, but this doesn't seem to work for me. I have brightness at 100%, and have tried playing with the texture multiplier and layer transparency sliders.

What am I missing?

Would someone mind uploading a simple example?

Hello Edub,

just use higher brightness value :)

Take care of the units.. better cm than meters.

thanks Renato.

so I've increased the intensity to 1000% to get what I was after in the render, but the material preview looks blown out - a white material, even though it's supposed to be a colored material (blue). I guess the 1000% intensity. I tlooks fine in the render, but I can't tell it apart from other materials in the preview, unless I go to the luminosity layer settings.

Ultimately I'd like to create a backlit, painted glass material (glowing color, with reflections), but it seems the reflective layer has no effect. Am I doing this wrong - do I need to create separate materials for the front(glass) and rear (painted color)....

I guess if I had some material samples to play around with, I'd have a better grasp? :)

Hi edub,
remember that if the color brightness of the Luminosity layer is >= 100% it overrides completely the object color, but it will emit a tinted light affected by the object color. For the effect to work leave the transparency amount at 100%
