I use VrayforC4D on my MacBook Pro and on a G5 Quad at my office. I have the G5 set up as a Net Render server (and client), so I can send jobs to it from home. But Net Render has been behaving strangely with a project I'm currently working on.

The scene is a lobby interior that is lit by artificial lights (i.e. area lights) and some daylight (physical sky). When I render the scene on my MacBook Pro it renders correctly. It also renders correctly when I render it from within Cinema (not Net Render) on the G5. But when I send the file to Net Render on the G5, Vray seems to turn off all the lights except for the physical sky! I've never seen this before. I double checked the file and all the lights were still on.

Tonight, as a test, I deleted all the texture tags and materials from the scene and set a gray override material. When I try to render this file on Net Render, I get an error. The message in Net Render is "Image Transfer failed". What does this mean? Is anyone else having these problems? I'm going to try rendering the scene in C4D on the G5 tomorrow to see what happens.

as we use just normal c4d netrender(there are no vray parts in it) this seems a NET problem to me. maybe it somehow cannot send the whole file?
i can remeber such things from version 7 or 8.

a vray error would only occur in the client renderengine when the console tells an error. if this is so please send us a screenshot and the file.
otherwise recheck your netrenderinstallation and setup.
maybe dann from renderking knows this problem, he is specialist on c4d NET.

There were no error messages in the Net Render Client console. I'll post this on the CGtalk forum where Dann will probably see it.

Looking at the project folder on the G5 today, I see that there was no "results" folder present. This is where Net Render usually stores finished images, so I wonder if its absence caused the error message. I just created the folder manually and I'm testing again. I'll post my results.

It may have been a permissions problem with the C4D file and the Net Render directory. I have changed these and am running the test again.

EDIT: It was permissions after all. The error occurred because Cinema didn't have permission to save the finished rendering to the directory.

The problem with the lights being switched off persists. Stefan, I have e-mailed a file demonstrating the problem to you.

I have this error constantly.
It comes form an overload of the network traffic. Netrender seems to stop loading the images back from the rendernode to the server after a while and just leaves the b3d files.
In other Rendermanagers you can set the time how long a server tries till he fails. Hopefully Netrender gets improved soon, or the Cinema standalone renderer takes use of the Net render client. So far it uses the cinema full version, what makes it unuseable for other render managers.

C4d works perfect with most render managers, also with vray.
Many studios use such solutions.

Netrender from maxon is old but also works ok if the network is setup fully ok. What you gave sounds more like a network
Issue, best contact maxon support.
