Hi, saw some people posting great shots of drinks and stuff, they probably missed our thread in the WIP section about it.
The material is made by me and KevinJ and the best result made by Fluffy.
heres some shots for it in some tests. =)

I really enjoy to go through all these topics, but with lots of frustration involved.
Could anyone please explain how to use this material.
Right now I am four years old, so take it slow.
I have this sink which I would like to spray with 1000s of water drops.

Big thanks for any help.

Hi Stratguy,
did you download this file that glass posted?
The explain quickily:
Copy the sink.
Add a glass material to the copied sink.
Add a vray displacement tag to the copied sink.
In the displacement tag add you your displacement map.
Start there, if you still have problems post a your file and someone will help.

Hi KJ,
Yes I have downloaded the droplet file.
I have also tried to apply the same material and disp map onto the sink, many times with different settings, with crazy results all the time.
Instead of posting some of the renders, I post some screen dumps of the Object Manager. I believe that if I understood the hierarchy, layer order and disp map settings I might, just might, be able to figure it out.
Also, there are two different Droplet ”masks”, one psd file and one noise Texture. ...I don‘t get this......
The psd file is black with white droplets, but when looked at in the Attribute/Texture/Layer/Shader/Bitmap it is white with black droplets.
Thanks again for helping out, it is very appreciated.
I hope I one day can help someone in these forums.
Best,
j

Hi J.
I think the files went thru a lot of tests and may not have been cleaned.
I did a quick test.
http://www.alternativeskin.com/ads/3d/test.zip
Your maps should be white on black. black being your lo points and white your highest.
Rather than having multiple copies I would just make a very large displacement map. Maybe make it tileable using imagesynth from luxolgy.
You may have to relink the the displacement maps.
Hope this helps.

Hi KJ,
Thanks for file and info.
I have done a test with a plane object slightly below the sink surface, and added a disp map, to get the tops of the droplets to show. see image
Not good!
And I do not know where to start to make this any better.
What would be the main difference between this ”technique” and the one you did on the cube?
Btw, was the Heiniken Beer Sphere done by you?
It’s beautiful.
Thanks again.
Best,
j

J,
your map might need to be scaled down, the edges of the map may also need to be softer (so your drops don't look like they standing straight up), you may want to decrease the height of your displacement.
Here is another quick test using the one of the bump maps from the heineken piece I was doing.
http://www.alternativeskin.com/ads/3d/waterdrops.jpg
Here is an example of me displacement map that I used for the can:
http://www.alternativeskin.com/ads/3d/waterdrop-displace.jpg
Yes the last heine sphere in this post was done me with the help of glass and fluffy.
Hope this helps.

Indeed it needed to be scaled down, thanks.
Is the displacement/material ”technique” on the sphere and/or the cube posted yesterday any different from: to just put a displaced material below another material?
Am I missing something here?
Big thanks KJ

No there is no difference. All test I have shown you are the same as the sphere.
The difference is the displacement map. The one I sent in the cube test was not blurry at the edges. Look at the disp map from my last post and you can see that the edges are softer.
Also in the last post, there are two objects with displacements. One is larger in size and the other is scaled downed to 50% and the height reduced to give variation droplet size.
Your are more than welcome.
Looking forward to your post when done.

Here we go again.
What I meant earlier was; what is the difference of what I am doing, i.e putting a displaced material below another material, compared to what you do with your files (cube, sphere etc.)
I did not mean the difference in your files.
Here’s what I have done: I found some drops I liked in a render, located them in my disp map, made a PS brush based on them, painted a new map, and did a render in your file. Looks not too bad as a starting point (the blueish image).
But when I render the sink with the drops I does not work.
Can anyone please give me a tip on what might cause the long white reflections, and all the noise in the sink
I have also tried with an alpha. but then there is alway a kind of dark shade along the bottom of the drops...... Does anyone know what causes this?
Another question; Is it possible to add more then one disp material/tag on a object, like a cube with different textures on each side?
Thanks for any and all help,
j

Hi guys I'm a new C4D user as well as new to Vray.
I've been messing around with the water droplets for literally HOURS and I can't seem to get them to work properly. I have a simple Illustrator vector object that I've added the Extrude NURBS to, and I want to give it some water droplets. I followed along carefully in this thread and I did as KevinJ suggested on the first page. I made a copy of my object, changed that copy's material to the water droplet material, added the Vray Displacement tag and loaded up the raindrop normal map in it. There are several things wrong going on.
Here's my logo:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a70/djeros/logoproblem2.png
In the lower left corner, I get a huge cluster of raindrop material:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a70/djeros/logoproblem.png
And as you can see along with that top pic, the material doesn't shape out to be drops but rather lines and rods of waterdrop material:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a70/djeros/logoproblem3.png
I'm really new to C4D, so if you do have a solution, you'll have to speak simpler terms to me because I'm dumb about this right now haha :(

use cubic mapping for the drops texture for example, it will fix it.

Wow I can't believe I didn't notice this post.
I finally figured out how to get to the mapping option in the texture properties haha, and changing it to cubic mapping worked perfectly. Where do I sign up to make love to you? Haha just kidding.
Also I noticed that changing the Displacement amount to something like 30 m creates this awesome icicle effect, in case anyone is going to do some winter scenes later. :)
Another question though!
The water drops only seem to appear on the sides of the logo. How can I have them show up on the front and back as well?

it should be in all sides, pass me a simple file and i'll look it up.

Austin, here's the file.. don't forget to use shift to reduce the size of the
original geometry and rise the dsp value to make it bump out 8)

Hey man, thanks for helping out.
I simply tried out your version straight from downloading, and it still is only showing up on the sides. I set the amount to 40 m so you could see it better. It was the only setting I changed.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a70/djeros/problem.jpg
There's yellow on the front yes, but it's not being displaced at all, only on the sides :(

I'm using C4D 10.1 and Vray version 1.0821. Are those versions that much obsolete that I should upgrade to 10.5 and 1.0876?
I reinstalled everything, still no change :(

please use the latest vray version 1.0876 its free update.
and preferably use Cinema 4D 10.5
you can also use pepples from the enhancec4d shader.
looks pretty good =)
