Vista sp1 disables Cinema 4D from running frequently, 95% of the time it wont start so be careful of the update and wait it to be final.

i tried the final vista sp1 beta and its not worth the try. keep vista as it is.
good luck =)

so vista sucks? right?

well vista in general sucks with designing in general. but what i was trying to say that vista alone is fine with c4d, don't install the service pack 1 (sp1) because it will disable some files in c4d roots and it wont open in most of the time, it will say that its opened in the task bar but in the interface its not.

Vista especially sp1 update sucks yeah lol.

Forgive me my stupid question then. Should i really go with xp64 then? i was close to decide to take Vista instead. I'm a little confused.

Vista SP1 is still a Beta so some problems might be there.

Definitely choose Xp64, which works great all around.

No Vista, NO!

I run XP64 and aside from having to run C4D in 32bit (vray! vray!) it's been great. I do run 64bit C4D when I'm doing most work, just not materials and rendering yet.

dont gamble with vista, vista itself looks like a beta from the huge amount of bugs and errors.

wowt thanks scanmead, yup deleted sp1 and its working fine now =)

prayas, yes its still beta but at the last final beta release. i dont think they will notice this bug or error, sp1 official release will be within a month probably.

my advice go for XP 32 or 64 the important thing is XP.

@nboy If you are running a xp64 installation you need to take the C4D 32bit for use with Vray untill we do have a 64 bit Vray release. That's the only way right now.

Running Vista Ultimate 64Bit. No problems what so ever, with no program, I almost never run XP64 anymore, why should I. The only negative side of Vista is the Explorer, that I don't like but that is personal.

yes vray 1.1 runs smooth on vista sp1 or sp2, i also use it on vista 64 now.

important is, like with all software under vista, to run the installer with administrator rights. no compatibility mode needed.
t43, if you need further install help use the support "info" email.

thanks for report Rich

ok, after having found no way to install c4d on my vista 32 ultimate, i called maxon support. bad news itś not vista. as i said before i am using a thinkpad for traveling.it runs an intel graphics board.it seems there is a problem with these "low end" boards or probably the drivers...if i can not make it into cinema to switch to software shading there is no way to run it...on launch after normal install it just wont start and there is a windows error as mentionend before.at maxon they could not tell me if this problem will ever be solved but if so it could only be solved by the intel driver....to make a long story short i used my ubuntu and wine...installed without any hassel, and i can run c4d smooth.even though the vray install in wine did not work, or so it seems, on start up it tells me does not find the vraystuff.dll even though itś there...i am quite certain it has something to do with the rights managemnt in linux.i will report any progress.just incase anybody elese is running c4d+vray in wine i would be happy to get some input on that.i am glad vray works super smooth on my workstation and will get back to other things while in the train or plane....thx again

intel graphics driver...interesting.

i did not know they make graphic chips at all.
bad to hear that.

you should be able to run cineam4d in software shading mode, or?
as the graphic card is very slow anyway, this should not make any difference. for vray it doesnt matter too, only the cpu.

you can force c4d to start in software mode in pressing shift while startup.
this should help you.

cheers

Yeah I have a HP laptop and this has an Intel onboard graphic chip as well.
Not the most advanced one and not the best for 3D work but it works.
The viewport is slow and no E-OGL but for a bit of playing with C4D it will do.

If I have to do serious work I fire up my PC.

Peace,
Rich_Art.
