Hi every one...
[ new on this forum and on Vray, i'm french graphist, known as NiKo on French FC4D forum)...
So...
I'm planning a new job with a a lot of rides in interior scenes with Vray.
So i'm very interested with RenderKing renderfarm.
Could someone give me feedback about this farm?

How do they work with the pre-caclutated GI pre-pass? No problem with Vray rendering?
How do they deal with customers startings renders on the same time? Qeueing renders, or sharing computers?

Thanks for sharing experience...

Hi Aeron,

I would highly recommend RK. I've been using it for more than 4 years or so... Dann Stubbs (owner) is very helpfull, it is fast, up to date and it is certainly not too expensive... (dollar vs euro)

You have to do your own pre-calculation. I think it is not yet supported by VRAY as far as I know. Although if you use Brute Force you won't need to prepass.

Depending on your subscription you share the 120 CPU farm or 48 CPU farm with no more then 4 other customers. You can't see each others renders, but the NET RENDER browser tells you the farm is busy and your job will automatically be cued up. Usually it won't take too long. If someone has a 20 hour job and yours only takes an hour, it might be rendered in between the other jobs.

Hope that helps,

Cheers, Lex

on the Rebus renderfarm you dont share the power
furthermore do the Admin the render and not the client via Remote
more easy and user friendly imho

QM1 isn't it a bit low to the ground to say this in the RKfarm thread ?

just my 2 cents

don't worry about the comments from people with hidden agenda's : )

there are lots of render farms to choose from - it just comes down to your needs, your budget and how you may feel about the working relationship between you and the render farm.

i've noticed a lot more back biting and stuff like this as the c4d render farms have proliferated the past year - of course many may not know that quakemarine1 IS rebus render farm so there is a motivation for his post - i've also noticed a large increase in "post-fomercials" on many forums where people post not to really contribute to the topic but just to put their "advertisement" into the thread - one new farm even copied the RK format and render options nearly word for word! while i find that annoying that is a fact of life to deal with certain personalities.

i choose to be very private and try to never speak about who uses my render farm or the projects that render here, as well as try not to be "boastful" about things (i'm sure in the past i've been guilty of it at times much like any human) - i've been asked to do interviews and articles about RK but i refuse as i want RK to be behind the scenes and to focus on helping the user being the "star" not the hardware behind them.

RK is able to be so inexpensive because i have a full time job as a senior IT professional in a well known entertainment company (burned out on doing 3d professionally years ago) and i supplement the costs to run RK out of my own pocket if needed. it is not a business to screw the user out of tens of thousands of dollars when they are stuck in a bind and have no other options to complete their projects - it actually is a big tax write off for me most of the times.

the farm is shared which helps keep the costs low - if a user has ever worked in a professional environment like in a big studio then you will find that using RK is very much like rendering in your studio job - you queue your renders up and normally they start right away and on occasion your "co-worker" may have a job ahead of you, but that is no different then working in a studio. if a company can afford to have lots of hardware just sitting idle waiting for you to render then you will normally be paying much MORE for that experience.

managing your time and deadlines is something you should be doing (if you want to succeed and remain in this field) and everyone knows that waiting until the last minute to try to rush out a render normally invites disaster and other unknown problems - it does happen at times often due to no fault of the artist and i try to accommodate and work with the user as best as i can, but working with a "plan" and timeline will help your projects in the long run.

they way i see RK is i work with you much like another co-worker on your team - not just a company that is trying to gouge the customers for as much profit as they can get. if you think that sounds like a render farm that you would like to use then i hope to see you in the future on RK - if you have other needs such as a larger farm there is www.rendercore.com among others, or you may prefer just to pay by the ghz hour then there are many other options for you to choose.

RK is nearing it's 7th birthday so it is not some inexperienced fly-by-night shop that won't be here for you to depend on next month, i hope to keep it running for a long time - or as long as i can manage to sustain myself on only a few hours sleep each night ; ) so far, so good...

feel free to check out the www.renderking.com web site and also compare to the other render farms out there until you find one that fits your desires and budget, and please feel free to email me if you have any other questions.

Thx for the feedback and the "debat" between farms...
It's also nice to see that RenderFarm's managers are active and present...
