this is my entry for the local train lighting challenge from Jeremy Birn. I think its near final but there is much room for the last details. My first wish was the Train Shader it needs some real texturing like stripes and in the next step i need a complete unwrap of this very massive subd train surface :(
critics and suggestions please

hi shordy,
i like it - it has kind of special look.
but i think you exaggerated a bit with the blur of the background.
it makes it look somehow tiny and it does not really fit with the amount of blur of your forground elements.

thank u michael, the blur is done in the postwork with a depth channel rendered with ar2 but i didnt use it completly and brushed something of the blur away with a mask. I think i will render one version with real dof from vray and or make the blur not so hard. i hoped noone will see that the blur doesnt fit but its to bad :D

there are some really nice things in this image and then lots of off things.
yeah the background is really odd.
but the thing i wonder most about is the fence and stuff that is in the water.
why is that?

i like the thing in the water, it adds mystery.
i don't like the water, looks like plastic ripples. and the blur is faaaaaar too heavy, makes the train look like a model. in fact, before writing this i had to look up "local train" to be sure that this not just meant something like a model train. maybe you should lower the overall specularity, it's all a bit too shiny, like plastic, especially the train.
oh - _nice_ modeling :)
