...my first Vray-C4D-Render!
Morning light in an industry-building in Berlin (the model was built for a current restauration project on this abandoned factory)...
..only sun/sky-light
Image scaled down from 1100px-height (MacBook Pro 2,16 GHz)
I know many things could be improved and GI settings not optimal but after these first steps... I have a feeling vray was a good decision! :)

looking really good and an exciting project. I love the fade from dark to light on the roof - did you do anything special there in your mat/render settings? It works really well with the sky colour.

Thank you very much -I was indeed a little "surprised" abut the quality of light: It was always a hard struggle in AR.
@glass.use:
The settings: It´s just the preinstalled High-Quality-preset (in GI-window)
with small changes according to recomendations in some other threads:
Antialiasing: adapt. DMC 1/10
IRmap: -3/-2
Hemisph. subdiv:70
Interpol. samples: 30
Physical Camera with F-number 2,6 and shutter speed 380 focused (in C4D settings) on 1000 cm with DOF (so the longer rendertime :( but the DOF is barely noticeable because of the far focus point (it was very strong on focus 200cm))
The light is only sun/sky (with reduced blue (in camera-settings > white balance -hint from Stefan)
@rhodesy:
The fade is automaticaly generated by the physical sky: I suppose because the sun-position is very low (in the morning) so the lower part of the sky is brighter (?)
..the camera setting of course have to fit to this. For example: shutter speed or F-number lower: the whole sky would be bright.
I simply tested some different days and times of day to find an adequate lighting...

l..the fade from dark to light on the roof
Sorry, I thought about the sky :roll:
The reason for the fade on the underside of the roof is the result of the vignetting-effect (in camera settings).
Apparently the vertical warping in the upper part of the image caused by the strong camera-shifting also influences vignetting-effects warping them too in the same direction.

Sputnik you have inspired me to have a go myself with a model I did a few years ago, thanks for the tips. I am loving the simplicity of setting up scenes now I am begining to scratch the surface of what vray can do.

But this need more AA!
The lines of the windows in the backgrund are cutted

Yes more AA would be good but I wanted to keep the render time down. I am just experimenting. This took just over 8 minutes which I think is quite amazing.

cool...
this view would be surely interesting with a strong DOF and focus on the first sculpture.
By the way: Is this sculpture a free model? Where would I find it?:oops:
