Hi, I made this scene for comparing Vray with fR. The only problem are these white artifacts at top and at bottom of the chair (in fR you can see them too, in this case only appear when you select Area Shadow instead of a raytrace shadow).

Anyone know how to avoid these artifacts?

Vray: 7:15 min

fR: 3:19 min

And this last image is the Vray with the Cinema's OA (rendered in MP and mounted in Photoshop):

It`s overbright, i think, it`s very frequent problem and have many solutions,
they depending on what creates the problem.

so:

white dots (http://www.google.com.ua/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aru%3Aofficial&hs=pDu&q=vray+white+dots&btnG=%D0%9F%D0%BE%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%BA&meta=)

I think I found the solution: increasing a bit the "Shadow bias" option at Infinite's VrayLight tag they disappear (the problem was that increasing this option in fR it produces more artifacts...)

Thanks Tong for answering

Did you use fast interpolation for your blurry reflections in FR?
You could probably even get this render in less time if you do.
You need to increase FR's AA threshold too, it's a bit lower compared to the Vray render.

Good to see both outputs, it shows that both renders will work well on a similar project.

Hi cogombo,
i dont think this is the correct forum to make a comparsion of 2 engine, preaps general user s better.
By the way, Yuur machine?

i will try to optimizze your scene

Ok, sorry. Move this post to the corresponding section.

Mi machine: Laptop Dell Inspiron 9400
Intel Core2Duo T7200 2.0 Ghz
2Mb RAM Dual
GeForce 7900 GS Go

activate subpixel mapping in colormapping in vray.
also with optimized settings this scene can render much faster & smoother i think:-)

i would say not more than 1 minute on my machine;-)

in this simple test it is very hard to compare engines by the way. the power of vray comes with 100ies and photometric lights, GI and many glossy reflections etc...

cheers

Hi cogombo,
looking you image the gi distribution is better in Vray, By the way for render time your settings are a little strange.
first the global subd multyplier set to 3 is very high.
set it 1 and set 80 to Hemyspherica subd, incrase the interpolated semple and se the sample size of LC to 0.01
the resolut should be good and very fast.
is not final prodution setup but preas is a good start.
Another think is about PhySun, turn the intensity multyplier to 1 and tune the explosure with PhyCam.
chek subpixel mapping in colormapping for delete th white point near the chair.

hopo i have time to post a file..

Best
Franz

ps 32 Glossy subd in floor material is very high value

I don't want to increase the interpolated samples more than 25 because they tends to blur details in the GI.

¿The Intensity multiplier=1 is like the real sun? Then why is this option set to 0.05 by default? I see the same ilumination after and before... (without DOF, of course).

32 Glossy subd in floor material is the aspect that I want for the floor, it's cleaner (I hate the noise in blurry reflections). I tried it at 24 but I don't like it (noisy).

Also I icreased 10 times the luminosity of the red ball at bottom right corner.

Ok, here are the render and the file with the optimizations. Now the render time is 4:10 min, but I can see some slight artifacts on the wall at right.

hi cogombo,
the intensity moltiplier is sette by default to 0.05 because is a good value to start the work without the PHyscam
for the 32 gossy sbd, check a good balace og subdivision and AA. Tow aspect are very connected and with global subdivision multyplier to 3 evry subd is multiplied for 3.

Ok, thanks. Now this render is with 8 glossy subds and AA is set to 0/2 instead of -1/2. The floor is more noisy.

But render time: 3:19 THE SAME LIKE WITH FR!!!

http://aycu30.webshots.com/image/29349/2001025936306578498_rs.jpg

Now I increased the AA to 1/2, but the render time is worts: 5 min.

Finally, I increased Glossy subds to 16 and decreased AA to 0/2: Render Time: 4:11 (like Glossy subds=32 and AA -1/2, but I think this last is a best setup because the AA is higher)
