View Full Version : 1.02 crashing on specific older hardware....

hi all,
we are experiencing crashes with v4d 1.02 on some of our nodes on the renderfarm, all the same type of hardware: Dual CPU Athlon XP 2800, MSI K7D-Master-L Motherboard, 2GB RAM. AMD X2s and Intel Quad Cores render the same scenes with 1.02.
1.0 did run on these machines. are there any known hardware nogos? could it be some cpu extensions the developers were using which these older cpus don´t support?
thanks for help as these machines are still valuable nodes in our little c4d farm.
regards, alex

actually all should work.
are you sure the machine and memory is full ok?
did the exact same scene render in 1.0 and not in 1.02?
best if you can provide a file.
does this happen with all scenes or just with one?
is this with net?
thanks

hallo stefan,
all 5 machines are showing the same behavior.
and yes, this is with net render.. they did run with 1.01 ..
i´m going to run a test with a different scene.
... (20 min later)
here the result: i used the testscene provided by franz (done with v4d 1.0) and sent it to the net render.
i tried different plugin versions:
-1.0 doesn´t render at all.
-1.01 does render
-1.02 makes the net client crash immediately after accepting the job and showing the frame number to render.
BUT: this is only for the machines with the specified hardware: an Intel Quad Core with 1.02 installed does render as well.
hmm, what is the difference between these v4d versions? i either need these five machines with win32bit or the 64bit version for the other machines on net render! ;-)

Hello RenderTaxi,
So the problem appear only on athlon xp?
please replace your current files (VrayBridge.cdl, cgauth.dll and vraystuff.dll with these zipped here and let me know.
I think that is a SSE compiler option.

thanks for your patience

renato,
thanks for your quick help! It does work now. all nodes running on athlon XP are not crashing anymore.
so this is an SSE option? what does it actually do? does it speed up things on newer processors? and 1.01 was not compiled with this option as well?
i found some strange things though during the tests: i will try and show you.
basically, the different render times make me wonder..
all tests done via c4d10.111 on netrender, different machines with different versions of v4d (1.01, 1.02, 1.02b). all running xp32 of course.
scene for testing was the scene provided by franz:
http://www.forum.vrayforc4d.com/viewtopic.php?t=72
1.01 (Dual Athlon XP 2800)
http://www.rendertaxi.de/mxl_images/vraytest0001_RN01.jpg
1.02b (Dual Athlon XP 2800)
http://www.rendertaxi.de/mxl_images/vraytest0003_RN05.jpg
1.02 (Intel Quad Core 6700)
http://www.rendertaxi.de/mxl_images/vraytest0005_Q6700.jpg
why is the 1.01 sooo much faster than 1.02?
the scene was opened and saved to net render on a machine with 1.02 installed.

mmm... and the 1.02 is brighter that 1.02b, and 1.02 is brighter that 1.01...

Hi All,
RenderTaxi: thanks for your notify, we found a bug that force the Adaptive DMC threshold to 0.0.
So the slowness appears when you use the Adaptive DMC antialiasing where the threshold was always to 0.0.
We are sorry about this problem and we want to apologize for this new update that is marked 1.03.
I'm sorry too with the Cracker that for sure have spent 1 day or more to crack this new release...
Please go in the http://forum.vrayforc4d.com/viewforum.php?f=30 section. In a few the update will be there.
thanks all for your patience.
