I'm sure I'm missed something evident but on some low poly cars I can't get the phong tag to work.
have a look at the file:

mmm... interesting... I have no idea why phong doesn't work..

Probably a problem during the export of this geometry from whatever application.
I managed to fix this by exporting it with Riptide, and reimporting it back.

I can't give it a shot right now, but the only thing obvious I didn't try would be to revert the normals and see if it makes a difference. seems that vray is peaky about normal directions.

No, not normals direction, not superposed polygons, no detached faced, the phong is setup properly.
It's just a screwed up geometry that can be fixed the way as said above :)

this geometry renders fine in AR though.

Why should your car collection go? Riptide allows you to export everything you need, even materials and selection sets.
P.S: Renato will probably have a look at it, since it renders fine in AR.

He's on it.

superimposed surfaces work also, under option secondayr ray bias set this to 0.1 instead of 0. helps a lot with modells that have coplanar surfaces or other porblems.
cheers

forget about my car collection, I worked out something with the client: parking lot without cars
Ouch, riptide is mac only, so thats how you guys feel all the time. ;)
No big drama, I'll just drag my dog out back in the garden and shoot it.
Well, somebody has to pay for this.

Riptide is Mac or Windows. Running XP here, and couldn't live without Riptide. It's the one listed as 9.6+, second from the bottom of the list.
