hi all,
i'm not sure if it's called as "carving"
i'm tring to model this shape but no way :( i dunno how to do this. i have this shape as vector. any idea?

if you have it as a vector file just extrude it

it's not closed spline so the result is like this if i extrude it. no thickness. and it's too complex to close it.

so close it, it seemles object must be.

yup, take the time to close it, even if you do it in sections.
you could also displace it.

Hello,
or you can use free tool called Spline Connector from Michael Welter.
http://www.welter-4d.de/fplugs/freeplugins_en.html
Its great tool: you put whatever number of splines as children of this object. It behaves as it was single spline - you can choose if you should be closed or opened.
