Adam Swaab released a new update of his excellent workflow plugin, render elements.

This plugin allows to save the actual state of a scene and reload it later.
It saves render settings, material tags state etc... ;)

Here a copy of the CGTalk text, and link to the thread:

Update
Updated version for Mac is up. Probably has a few bugs here or there. If you're interested, you can download it here and play around with it. Keep in mind that this is beta - and as I said, I think there are a few bugs still - so I would advise against using this in production or in any files you care about. If you want to, of course, that's your choice

Main fixes/improvements:

No restriction to object/layer/material names.
Completely removed RE tags.
Now records all post effect settings.
No more .txt files. All info is stored in the scene file.

Please let me know if you have any feedback.

Once the bugs are worked out with the Mac version, I'll do a PC compile.

If it seems confused, just watch the video and you'll get it, I think it's a must have :D

ENJOY :)

Hi there,

I was finally able to get a license of Vray, so now I can add more support for it. Already, a couple of bugs with Vray integration have been fixed. As I play with Vray more, I'll be able to see where the integration with Render Elements can be improved. Already, I see Vray Compositing tags that should be recorded...

A PC version should be available soon. Once testers confirm things are working ok, I'll post it.

What I put online is an untested Beta version. Since I have only the demo version of Cinema for PC, not all functions can be tested (such as file generation).

Please let me know if everything works as expected or if things seem broken.

really great timesaver!
my first test showed-
record of vray-effects works, -color-mapping, gi-settings,-.. - great
-there seems to be aproblem with parametric objects, p.e. the vray- material of an cube couldn`t be recorded..
-same goes for "generate files"
-current camera isn`t recorded , at least if ther“s an vray-cam-tag applied

Hi Everyone,

Well, I'm pretty close to releasing another version of Render Elements, and I have added more support for Vray, as well as including numerous bugfixes and new features.

I have yet to use Vray in production, so I am not familiar at all with what is needed to render Vray scenes with Cinema 4D net render. I want to makes sure that generated .c4d files sent to net render from Render Elements render correctly when using Vray. Other than the scene file and the textures, what other Vray specific info needs to go onto the net server for scenes to render?

And, do those files actually need to go onto the server, or can they stay on a network drive, as long as all hosts have access to that drive? When possible, I try to avoid large network file transfers when sending out render passes, as it just slows the whole thing down.

I'm also putting together a user's manual and video tutorial, and I would love to have a really nice scene I can use to show the power of Render Elements. So, this would be a scene that needs or utilizes multiple render settings, reassigning materials, spitting out special passes, etc. So, if anyone has anything like that they can donate, I would love it.

Thanks!
Adam
