I am working on a project that is a rather large complex. Does the physical size of a scene affect the render times? The following image is just using the physical sun and sky and has IRMap of Primary and Light Cache as the secondary GI and it took around an hour for just the GI to calculate with rather low settings. Light cache had 500 subdivision and IRmap was set to -3 and -1 with 75 Hemi Subdivision. Once the GI did calculate it rendered quickly, but it was also Low AA settings.

yes the site doens matter for all, light, GI etc.
it depends a bit on your settings, but always render in realworld size!
cheers

The long prepass time might come from all this geometry.
Lots of samples to calculate on those leaves.
Have you tried with Brute Force instead of LC?
but always render in realworld size
this means, the unit in cm in the cinema settings?

Thanks. I will try brute force. Also, the scene is modeled in real world units (inches). It is just a very large campus. There 2 large apartment buildings as well as about 15 of the cottages that are shown in this image.

Very nice image! For a few seconds I thought it was a photo. ;)
Not a foto ;-) but very good light, morning I think.
the grass flat and texture resized
glass in windows black
Bricks has no bump on it
Chairs legs to thin i think
Garage door flat, and have something yellow on it, in center

Thanks, The grass needs work. It hold up much better in the overall render of the entire complex. There is no light inside the units, thus dark inside compared to the outside causing the black looking windows. The yellow thing is a brass handle on the garage door and it is wood shakes not brick.
I am not having much luck with this scene and think I will have to abandon it, at least with vray. Another scene I am working on that is much smaller is proving to work well. Interior render times are absolutely horrible. Letting it run on my laptop while i work on archicad on my workstation, it is taking 2 hours so far for a simple interior shot with just sunlight. Yikes. But as I said, the other scene I am testing with is much more reasonable.
