Hello everybody,
I am currently testing caustics with C4DR10.111 on OSX10.4.10 on a MacProOcto with Vraybridge1.03 and... it crashes consistently.
My scene is a transparent torus with one spot light. I am sure that the GI settings are not optimal since I am just started with Vray, but here the only change between crash or not (at the end of the building of the caustic photon map) are the caustics options. When I use the "affect shadow" option in the transparent material there is no crash, which can be explained because they are not calculated. Maybe somebody can have a look at this scene or find my error ? Many Thanks !

please send us this file where that happens so we can help or solve it.
thanks:-)

ah yes the affect shadow option should be on anyway, other sire no caustic can go through, maybe this is a small issue. shouldnt crash anyway.

Thanks for testing Stefan.
So it is probably not possible to do at the moment...
I am looking forward to being able to finish this tutorial here:

Could maybe somebody check if this problem is OSX-only ?
Once it works I promise to make a small tutorial out of it :)
I am very much into rendering water, fluid simulations and transparent objects and so far have used caustic effects in a wide range of programs from Carrara to Maya. Vray would be a welcome option for animations including GI.

Thank you very much Stefan. This is the scene I am talking about, crashing here with caustics turned on (it is not a tutorial, just my file in this folder on my webserver):

hi chris, after first fast test i saw your max intesity was set to 0 in caustic tab.
that seem to crash vray. i set it to 1 p.e then it renders. please try that.
we see into that deeper, maybe 0 is not allowed.
hope that helps, please keep up with nice caustic renderings!:-)
cheers
stefan
p.s: also look at the settings, instead of making thelight too bright you should rather set the caustic multiplier higher:
http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150R1/examples_caustics.htm
some infor from vlado about caustics
p.ss: also your AA settings are far to high, you dont neet 0/6, use 0/2 or 0 /3 thats enough and muhc faster:-)
