View Full Version : Cinema 4D Max poly count?
I was just wondering what kind of polycount you could get out of Cinema 4D? I know it's system dependent mostly but what figures could you expect for a system with 4 Gig ram?
It would be on Vista 64 bit and C4D 32 bit for now.
I've got about 10 objects I need to import, and each one is about 34,000 polygons. So 340,000 polygons? So long as it can render via VRay I will be happy.

I don; t have a clue concerning how many polygons 4Gb can handle (depends on the programs you run in the background as well), but I know that 340 000 polygons is cake in C4D.
I render scenes with 5 millions polygons and an insane amount of objects (which are a lot more system consuming than few objects with a lot of polygons).
340 000 polygons can be handled by Vray, I just rendered 27 spheres with 35 000 polygons each (which amounts to almost 1 million polygons), and my memory use was around 1.2Gig with some programs in the background.
Cheers Fluffy, that's what I wanted to hear
Now when I work out my Displacement woes I will be a very happy man indeed!

hi,
i rendered several scences with many million polygons with no problems.
it also of course depends on used textures sizes.
cheers
stefan
it`s depends of memory sizes
Cheers for the replies. C4D is the best!
1066 and remember ;-) You allways can in Cinema workflow use box display or even skeleton to view scenes with millions polygons without slowing, but and without it Cinema use autosimples with highly polygon models when your moving camera of point of view.
Yeah I often forget about that. I've been using C4D on and off since the Amiga and I often forget the simple things.
Amiga cool ;-), but ZX_Spectrum rulles ;-)
but Amiga has King’s Bounty and Sound System, so I bought Amiga, never said sorry about it.
offtop: So King back ;-)

I had spectrum in 1985
I went from the Commodore 64, to the Amiga 500, to the Amiga 500+ and finally to the Amiga 1200 which had 2 Meg of ram and a 14 mhz processor and even a 10 Meg Hard Drive  It took me about a day to render a teapot on a shiny reflective shelf with C4D back then
Still, you can't beat those games. Chaos Engine anyone?
