View Full Version : still no luck with 9.6

I'm running the UB version of C4D 9.603 on OS X 10.4.10. I have correctly installed VrayforC4D 1.03, but I can't get it to render. I can create Vray materials, add Vray tags, change Vray render settings, but when I hit render I immediately get a black screen. This is the same in the editor window and the Picture Viewer. I also have the same problem on a Power Mac Quad G5 and an Intel MacBook Pro.

Installation
I have installed the contents of the VrayLibs folder directly in the MacOS folder inside the package contents for Cinema 4D.app. I have installed the VrayBridge folder in the plugins folder. I have placed the VrayBridge.key file inside the Cinema 4D folder, the folder that contains the app.

Materials
Another problem I've noticed is that I get no material previews for Vray materials. The preview window remains completely black. However, when I change the diffuse color of a Vray material, it updates in the Gouraud shaded editor view. The Vray material I have created only uses the Diffuse Layer 1 which is set to a solid color.

Scene
I have created the simplest possible scene to get started, which is attached to this post. It contains a filleted cube and a plane, both converted to polygon objects. The light is a C4D sun light, with the time set for roughly midday. It also has a VrayLight tag with Physical Sun and Physical Sky checked. The camera has a VrayPhysicalCamera tag.

Have others been able to render from C4D 9.6 on OS X? I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,
Jack

Jack, when I first opened your file, the material was black. I dbl clicked the Mat Mgr preview and the material editor opened with the color (....). The material preview in the Mat Mgr remained black. When I dbl clicked the mat in the OM, the AM opened its Mat Ed with your material in color. The mat in the Mat Mgr was still black. I did not see anything strange with your color setup and I did not adjust it. Yep, something is not right. I did change the color of the plane for contrast with the cube.

Your file rendered after I changed the camera settings to f4, ISO 200 and speed 1/125sec.

Have you tried the sample file posted here?: http://www.forum.vrayforc4d.com/viewtopic.php?t=65

Thanks for checking out the file Leonard. I think the key difference between you and me is that you're running C4D 10.1, and I'm on 9.6. I tried copying your camera settings but still couldn't render. Were you able to render successfully before you adjusted the camera settings?

I'd like to try the example file, but it was created by R10, so I can't open it.

Before changing the camera settings, it rendered black.

I tried to load v1.03 into 9.6 and it would not open - something about a missing str file. I have to run now; if no one helps you, I will try again.

BTW, I knew you were on 9.6 but I was curious to see if the problem could be replicated in 10. Again, I think something strange is happening with your color and that is what is hanging things up. Once the color appeared in the Mat Ed, and the camera settings changed, your scene rendered in about 12 sec.

That's interesting about the camera settings. Changing them had no effect at my end though. Thanks for helping to troubleshoot, but I have a feeling there are still some bugs in the 9.6 VrayBridge. Hopefully they'll be worked out soon. I would really like to be able to use Vray on a couple of upcoming projects.

I hope you get some attention soon. You may want to post it in the Gen_User_Section. Good luck.

Renato or Stefan, can you take a look at the file attached above and let me know what you find? Alternately, do you have a working Vray scene saved in C4D 9.6 format that you can share? It seems that the scenes posted so far all are for C4D 10.1.

Thanks Stefan. Renato is already working on it. By the way, are you able to successfully run VrayforC4d under C4D 9.6 for OS X? I'm trying to understand if this problem is just affecting some users, or everyone with the same configuration.
