Hi,
I am trying to light a scene exclusively with an hdri image. The result however is very noisy even with the very high setting in the GI presets.
Is there a way to fix this?

I don't know exactly... I just select the very high quality preset from the dropdown in the rendering menu...

U have used the light dome with HDRI?

No... I used a sphere with the image mapped onto it? as a luminance material (converted from cinema material...)?

here's an example of the 'spottiness' of panels that should be a smooth color or tone...

What settings can I change in the renderer to increase the rendered output quality?

For HDRI-based lighting it is better to use a mapped dome light, rather than just GI environment.

Appart from what Vlado said, increase the hemispheric samples and interpolated samples values.

Great :) You guys have obviously been working with this a lot more than the time it is released...
I cannot find any dome light option when I add a cinema light and a Vray light tag so this bring me no further (except a little more frustration that I know basically nothing...)

Hi Tong,
Thanks for the comforting words :) Actually I am making ood progress with VRay and I should stay positive :)
In prelimibary tests it shows that I can get a comparable look GI images out of VRay in 20 minutes that takes Cinema's Advance Render, with Noise artifacts!, over two hours.
The reasons why I get a bit frustrated is that I am taking a risc now by moving a job for a big client over to produce in VRay and I have to meet deadlines. So when things are so much hidden or don't go as I expect it makes me jumpy.
But then again, discovery is one of the reasons I LOVE this line of work so much!

where comes money, jokes goes away.
I wish you luck with your client, and i wish him to be satisfied with your work.
