hi chaps
as we speak i'm installing XP64 :)
first thing i'll be installing will be c4d and vray (obviously). Will the current public release of vray work on c4d with the 64 bit upgrade to cinema installed or not?

Cinema will work with Vray only as you use the 32bit C4D exe file.
If you start the 64bit C4D exe Vray(and alot of the other plugins that are not 64bit) will be missing in the plugin menu.
This will be a thing in the past when we finally get a 1.1 release.
I made this switch when i ordered Vray in February. Works fine since then.
Some infos on X64 i discovered this week. Quicktime works fine but you will be missing the controls if you have a QT file for ex. in Firefox or any other embedded QT. The player itself will start with controls.
Just a little setback when using QT.
P..:
yes. maybe you will need additional dlls

thank you. looks like it's only time to upgrade c4d when the vray upgrade is released then :)

C4D works very well in XP-64, regardless of which build (32 or 64) you are running. The worst part is remembering which plugins work with which one (and the FryRender engine is only 64bit, so generates an error everytime I start 32bit C4D), the best part is that either build remembers your recent file list.
When vrayC4D is 64bit, I hope we also have a 32bit version to use. My laptop is XP-32 and sometimes I take it to a client's studio to work.

yes there will be 1.1 64 and 32 versions, but no use in one time, i know it`s not to good, but they have diff dll`s with the same names, but you can open 64bit files in 32 bit c4d with no problems.

BootCamp doesn't support XP64 bit... your better off with Parallels or Fusion... but hey... if you have a Mac... why not ditch Windows completely?
here is how to get back to your Mac...

Bootcamp does not support XP64 (it's stated several times in the Bootcamp manual), so you'll need to install the drivers manually.
Fortunately, a frenchcinema4d forum member regrouped all the necessary ones and provided a download link to ease the Google search pain.
Just download the following drivers and install them, these are all the necessary drivers for XP64 for the Octo Mac.
http://st.4u.free.fr/Nouveau%20dossier/ici/DRIVERS%204%20XP64%20-%20MACPRO.zip
http://st.4u.free.fr/Nouveau%20dossier/ici/infinst_autol.zip (missing SM Bus Controller)
I confirm they work fine, I installed them last month on my MacPro and everything runs great under xp64.
On a side note, you'll notice that you can handle much more memory under xp64 with a C4D 32bits than xp32. It won't be full 64bits, of course, but the OS can handle more and it already helps quite a bit.

thanks guys.
I've read the link photek gave in it says all i need to do to choose which OS i want to boot up in is hold down the ALT key when switching on. it's great! removes the need for bootcamp altogether.
So no i must download the drivers and optimize. As soon as i can get the network guy in the office here to connect me to the web and the office network i'll download those drivers Fluffy :)

Yes, the option key is the one needed to choose which OS to boot into (also stated in the bootcamp manual ;) ).
Good luck with the install, but it shouldn't pose any problems.

thanks fluffy, i'm downloading those right now.
as it stands now, XP64 works fine, but is in it's complete lowest configuration. hopefully these drivers will solve all :)
just a quickie Fluff, the smallest of the 2 zips has downloaded, but i havent installed it yet. what exactly is it? and how do i install it? which option to choose?
(i'm presuming the larger of the zips (still downloading) is purely the drivers i'll need and will be self explanatory when installing? )

In the new G5 installation system disk, all Windows version are supported by bootcamp (alls drivers are here) :
XP64bits and Vista ultimatte 64bits (wich I have)
Strat if you have good contact with your local apple reseller ask him
this disk

dont forget either, to download the latest driver of your graphic card, otherwise your open gl performance are going to be quite low...
ho and also the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (x64) if i remember well
it run quite smoothly here under xp64 with the aforementioned drivers installed and those minor additions

Hi all,
When I first tried to install or better tried to get XP 64 to work on
my 8core MacPro. No go! It was a horror!
Very bad Grafic Performance (with GForce). No Quicktime!
And some other hints (sorry for my terrible english)
So I went back to Vista 64.
Worked much better for me, but I still have Problems with the Grafic Perfomance. Even when I install the newest drivers.
4500,- Euro Mac with 10 Gigs of RAM and sometimes I really would
like to smash that Super-Mac against the wall.
regards
mike

for what ever reason bootcamp wouldn't install. after double clicking on the .exe file nothing happened.
still, no worries. i installed all of Fluffys links and all is up and running just dandy so far :)
i'll install the software apps tomorrow and test a bit.
thank you for the help

you know... just to add insult to injury... the 64bit version of Cinema4D for Mac isnt so far away... they have been working diligently on it since January..
As soon as that comes out.. and the VrayforC4D team work their magic on the 64bit version I will be unstoppable!...
then 32gb of RAM
then Snow Leopard (10.6) with big speed improvements and full GPU implementation at a system level...
then all thats left is world domination.. :D

and lets not forget... Maxon are amazingly good at supporting OSX.. they are always amongst the first handful of software companies to support any Mac updates/changes!... although Adobe have beaten them to it with Lightroom 64 bit released a few minutes ago!

They haven't announced anything officially (or unofficially), so please, try not to make assumptions.
Strat, don't use the bootcamp update, as it's for Vista64 (as clearly written in the URL address). Just use what I gave you, and you'll be rolling in no time. Run the apps, choose the default options.
My OGL performances are blazing fast under XP64, no sound card, bus, USB or any driver problems for me using these drivers.
@miohn129: Quicktime 64bits does not exist, but Quicktime 32bits runs fine here.

Fluffy, yeah, i know it's for vista, i just thought that might include XP too, but it obviously doesn't. (all i'm missing not having BC in windows is the mac style volume up/down functions. i can live without that :)
Yes, i installed all your suggestions ealier. fantastic. all went swimmingly. thank you so much.
tomorrow i'll get my network manager to connect me to the office network, then install all my 3d apps again :)
i'll report back when happy :)
thanks again peeps for the help

That's fine. I'll have vray64 on my workstation and vray32 on the laptop.
Actually, you can just duplicate your C4D folder, and install both versions of Vray that way (32 and 64bits).
That's what I'm doing here, works fine.

quick question -
since im no longer using bootcamp for the pc mode, things like the Apple keyboard disc eject and volume controls dont work. no probs, i can live with this. But, i usually press F14 to do my print screen control, this now no longer works either.
So i unplugged my Apple kb and plugged in a bog standard pc keyboard. the print screen option now works, but how do i now boot up into mac mode as the ALT key no longer functions on a standard keyboard :(
ideas?
Fluffy

I personally use a small screen capture program for this, as I like the Apple keyboard better.
I use FastStone, but it's not free. You'll be able to find some free tools for pc, though.

to eject the cd drive on a pc i use this -
http://www.adynis.go.ro/EjectCD/
and for screen grabs i use this (bottom of page) -
http://www.gadwin.com/download/
both work a treat, are free, and can have customisable keystrokes :)
Fluffy

you know that you can eject a cd/dvd disk by right-clicking on the drive and selecting "eject", right?
STRAT
08-01-2008, 01:48 PM
of course, but these are short cuts are they not ? ;)
Fluffy
08-01-2008, 01:52 PM
Yes yes, I was just wondering, since ejecting a CD is not an act I personally do often enough to justify having an additional program to run in my processes.
But hey, that's your machine, hog it at will
