Hi guys,

I try to model a curved staircase like this one:

I cannot get the curve right!! Is there any way to do this that is quick without poly modelling?

Here is my stairs, but the smooth curve is a problem.

i'll appreciate some help.

thanks guys.

never attempted such a stair before, but seems to me that you'd want to be using the helix spline.

edit:

quick attempt - I created two helix splines - outer and inner. loft nurbs with each, plus an instance, raised up the height. another loft nurbs with both outer and inner (to create the underside). a mograph cloner object with a tube object with slice parameters for quick stair treads :)

hi edub,
cool modelling-approach.
would you mind sharing your scene? especially the mograph part would be interesting to see.

hey, late here in Hawaii - just checked my email before I went to bed :)

I can upload the scene when I get back into work in the morning - it's not here at home ;)

I see you also use mograph. That i don't have.... :(

would really appreciate your scene to learn from.

cheers mate.

Aloha,

time zones working to your disadvantage here - sorry for the delay :)

really simple setup, really - everything is defined by and inner and outer helix - the mograph cloner is not essential, but creates the steps.

Is there a quick work arounf to make the steps spiral like that without mograph?
