Hi, I have a question about the XP 64 bits version.
Can we use the 64 bits version of VRAYforC4D with the C4D 32 bits version
(for exemple, to do a QTVR, impossible on the C4D 64 bits version) ?
thank you

Hi. We also use Win XP 64. I will write this OS to the registration email. Have we wait for 64b version of Vray or will you send 32b version (of Vray and keyfile etd.) that I can use with C4D 32 bit now (and 64b version later)? Or 32 bit version of Vray and keyfile is not running at all on 64b OS? Thanks.

the key will work for both yes.
the 64 bit is also on its way, we send in few days probably:-)

Thank you Stefan. Will 64b version run also with 32b Cinema? Sometimes I render in 64b, sometimes I must work in 32b because of plugins and QT. So will be provided both 64/32b version of VrayforC4D together in the same way as Cinema itself? Maybe I will change OS later to XP 32bit because of all the problems with 64b...

well the kex is the same,
but you wil need to specify which versin you want to start.
so on 64 win & c4d you need to use 64 vray

you can intall 2 c4d dolers though, one with 32vit an one with 64 bit version:-) then you can choose in which you want to work.

Great. I understand that there will be both 64 and 32b version in the same "installation media" so I can install them both on my computer with one licence. Just correct me if I am wrong, thanks.

I'm just about to install C4D v10 on my XP-64 machine. v9.6 has both 32bit and 64bit versions in the same folder, quite easy and convenient.

So when I install my new vray that I DL'ed this morning, I can only use it with the 32bit C4D?

And whenever you release vray-64bit will it be able to just add to the existing folders, or will there be a complicated multi-folder situation like described for FinalRender2/SP3-64 bit?

stefan

it will come hopefully not too long.
i hope it will install in same folder.

Will it be a lot faster.... I noticed that 32bits C4D versus 64bits C4D is not a huge speed improvement.
Im glad that i've made a dual boot system. With XP32bits and XP64bits.

Peace,

stefan

we work on it but we still wait for an answer from maxon...
tecnico, i deleted your post in the donwload area, please ask all 64 bit questions here.

since vray works with vista 32 it should be working on 64 when released.

Well, I will take the chance and buy Vray.

It is so important for me because the cinema 64bit running in vista can use much more ram (I use 8gb) then the limited 2gb ram in XP.

Thanks for the good work!

win xp 32bit supports up to 3gb. the 64bit version up to 4.

Unfortunately VRAY does not appear in the Cinema 64 bits version. In C4D 32 bits it works fine.

Will there be a VRAY version for C4D64bits? Or should it be possible allready with this version and maybe I do something wrong....

Hi jimmie,
at the moment the VrayBridge is not yet working on C4D 64bit, but it will be in a future update, probably the 1.1 one.

Hello to the forum. :D

I just bought VRAYforC4D yesterday (btw., thanks to 3DPowerstore and the VRAY-support for sending me the keys within a few hours, very good service  ).
In C4D_32bit it works (beside I could not get the physical sky running so far, all remains dark without additional normal C4 D-Lights :? ), but the installation in my separate 64bit C4D (Dual boot on same machine) does not show the plugin in 64bit.
Am I right that the 64bit vray is still not included or did I made something wrong ?

Tong

not included yet

Thanks Tong.

I already added sun and sky and made settings, but it still remained dark.
But I will go deeper into Vray these days, I think it will work.
Thanks.

hi RK_art,

the 64 bit is not yet released.
so please us e the 32bit version of c4d.

i hope in very newr future the 64 bit will be released to you:-)

francky the 64 bit can use much more than 4 gb it can use terrabites of ram.

did you checked GI on ?

Yes, I did.

The problem is maybe the same as with Maxwell, might be only a scaling problem.
Has read some threads that discussed that and solved it by setting the C4D-scale to cm or mm.
Will check this tomorrow.
Thanks for your kind help, Tong.

Thanks for the info, Stefan.
The first renderings of some sample scenes I found here in the forum look promising beside the sometimes dark renderings of some scenes (So far I use FinalRender Stage 2 which is very good too).
Bin gespannt, ob Vray auch bei organischen Renderings hält, was es bei Architektur-Bildern schon verspricht.

We've been watching the forum for 64 bit support for more than 7 months now and it has been promised for a long time. Our system is made up of 15 machines with a 20 proc farm - all of our workstations are dual-dual core with 4gb ram and our new boxes are dual quad core with 8gb ram and we're forced to work and render in the 32 bit version - it's killing us at render time with constant memory errors and crashes. Is the 64bit version coming or should we change our course of action and return to C4D advanced renderer? We love the look of vray but with the poor material placement tools, single poly selection sets and 32bit version only, it still operates like its in the development phase... can you please let us know when these things will be available so we can support you with more license purchases?

This forum from last year quoted Stefan saying the implementation for 64 bit version would be available in 2-4 weeks.

http://forum.vrayforc4d.com/viewtopic.php?t=1902

It also appears that the most recent update was last year on Dec Fri 2007 - 6 months ago. Curious if there will be a new update available soon to fix these much needed features?

Thank you.

I must agree to J Clark.
The 64 bit version is urgently needed also by me.
With high-poly-models and 4k-maps Vray (and with it the whole C4d-app) crashed alone today approx. 30 times because of 'out of memory'-errors when rendering, although I already use a low-quality single-pass irradiance-mapping GI without second light-cache etc. and very low GI-settings, Adaptive QMC etc.

Tong

RK_art
just note: the most ram use is light cache calculation
so no need in low quality presets, just use smart preset ;-)

RK_art
06-09-2008, 02:31 PM
Thanks Tong,

but I already tried a whole bunch of different settings.
The one I use works best for the desired results, and as I wrote, I use only one single irradiance pass, and no light-cache.
But nethertheless, using several 4k-maps kills along with ZBrush-Subd-level-4-meshes (and I already skipped all my HyperNurbs out of the scene) Vray and as well C4d with it.

Often I can render the scene only one time clean without any error-messages, the next time (or some renderings later) theout of memory'-message occurs, a few seconds later Vray or better C4d crashes.
It seems that Vray stores something in the memory after the first render, and the next time it exceeds the critical memory limit.

Restarting C4d works for the next render, then crashes and the whole procedure begins again.
It works this way, but it's a little bit boring.

@RK_art

with my high poly scenes restarting c4d and using batch rendering i the only thing that helps. a little anoying but works so far. I didn't try animating though.

I really much like to have the 64bit version some time soon. I actually bought vray and win x64 and a new machine in january because the 64 bit was anounced. I'm still saying let's wait for a proper release but let it be not to long please.

just disable all graphic stuff (aurora) and make it a classical windows..

I have to agree with these posts. Having a render crash or throw up a OOM message at 4GB on a machine with 8GB is pretty annoying.

We've all got work to do. This has become urgent. "it'll be ready when its ready' is not a good answer going forward. My client is expecting a final render handed in today, but I'm worried it will dump out without completing, wasting a lot of time in the process. I can't say 'I can't give you dates' to my customers if I want to keep them as customers.

Can we look at the 64bit build with an eye to urgency?

Is there any memory footprint advantage to using a larger or smaller bucket size? I think I'm using 48x48. Should I go to 32 or 64 or 128, and are they better square or in the proportion of the image?

I have to agree with Ernest Burden too.
I bought a new machine and 8Gb of RAM for working with C4D and Vray.
I also bought x64 for that purpose.
Optimizing the renderscene is an option i do anyway, but sometimes just hitting the renderbutton would be nice. I learned a lot of ways to save RAM on rendering thanks to this. ;)

Make it good and stable. Can't wait for it to finally be here to render some really nice animations.

from Ernest:
"Can we look at the 64bit build with an eye to urgency? "

hi all,
first of all, you can render about anything in 32bit too, you only must take more care of scene optimisation, huge things and many great stuff had been made, all with 32 bit over the last years. of course 64 bit is much more comfortable.

then i want to emphasize we work urgent Ernest, and we would have liked to have the next version ready much earlier if possible.(would have been much less work for us then;-)
this update needed major recoding and incorporated a new core to make 64bit and other things possible. no one is lazy here! but we try to make it good.

you can imagine that we donnot delay anything by intention, we work very very hard on this, you can all believe that. there had been bad bugs in the new sdks and they had to be refined, no way that we could have released that.

regarding optimizing:
yes smaller buckets save ram, yes, in system tab of vray there are the ram limit and the max tree depth. as i often said and as it is also in the detailed vray knowledge base of chaosgroup( and i think also in the 1.1 manual) reducing this values save ram. of course all texture things etc.

the talk "it is ready when it is ready" is just reality in software development, no evil thing from us.

cheers
stefan

Nothing evil, of course. I know everyone is working hard. It's just that many of us on the customer end have customers of our own who require dates and even times when things will be delivered. So as the time runs out and you see your image is rendering at 3.98GB, it gives you a few moments to think about why you should be sweating while the next 4GB sits idle.

And yes, the whole software industry has adopted the 'whenever' mantra. I guess it works when everybody does it.

I will have to read those things for more detail. I don't use many maps and I work very low-poly usually, so I hope the settings have room for improvement.

stefan

yes sure i understand you Ernest, still i hope you understand us too:-)

the whole move to 64bit came too late in the industry, hardware and software wise in my opinion. thats why all struggle now somehow to adopt to 64 bit.

i guess in 1 year all will have more or less forgot the old 32 bit, same as we have forgotten 16bit systems.

we will try to make the following updates faster again, as they are not core change but only additions and refinements again, like the first very fast update series. this one is more work, but i an confident it pays off in the long term to invest this work now rather than later.

cheers
