im just rendering out the GI passes for an animation which are processing pretty quickly once vray has started - however the export and wait before the lightcache starts is about 3 times longer than the actual rendering of the frame which is pretty annoying. Are there any plans to speed this part up (if possible)? would a raptor drive or vista readyboost disk help?

cheers

ps: Save it to file and nothing will be to calculate, only rendering of animation.

Light cache and Irradiance values will be get from files.

actually y there must be something wrong at your setup.
this goes extreme fast in vray. i can make animations here in very fast time, no wait anywhere.

can you give more destails or post a scene?
then we can try to help you.

cheers

Yes i am saving to disk and then rendering the frames at twice the size for the final movie reading from the lightcache and irr files - it would be nice if this process could be automated so you don't need to be at your pc to set off the final movie but yes the process is quite simple.

As for my set-up it is a reasonably large file but not massive as it holds in RAM ok. Just sun and sky switched on. It exports 467 objects i think and the blue export bar shoots up in 1-2 seconds but then nothing for another 12-15 seconds and then it will kick in and render the gi in about 5 seconds. This happens both on the gi stage and also when i come to render the final movie. Not sure what im doing different and the Gi is on low quality as its just at testing stage at the moment which is why its a bit annoying as its doubling the render time.

My PC is a Q6600 @3ghz, Vista 64bit and 4GB RAM with a SATA 7,200 RPM HD. I have also had the same problem with my laptop running xp.

Hope you can help.

EDIT: just looked at the sceen file and its about 100mb but cinema is only going up to about 900mb in RAM usage when rendering so not like the RAM size is overly large.
