I mean, is it significant consumption?
and does it make the computer parts to become wear?
I would love to know about what are the implications while I rendering.
thanx.
without knowing anything more than common sense about this, I would say that, YES your computer uses more electricity when rendering, and yes, it cause "wear and tear". - why wouldn't it?
Assuming that your CPU's run full speed when rendering, that is definitely more energy intensive than sitting idle - which equates to more electricity consumed. Just imagine a laptop in idle mode - it might sit there for hours without running out - whereas if it's rendering full speed, it'll run out faster... ;)
I think the determining factor in a CPUs lifetime is the heat it has to endure - the more it get's used, the less "life" it has left in it.

yes indeed the computer takes a lot more electricity while rendering.
thats a fact.

The value on your powersupply unit in your PC is a peak value. Rendering on all cores takes your cpu up there. So YES it uses all the power it can get.
About wear it's really not an issue because no system will last that long speedwise as a rendering system. This is only from my experience.

thanx guys.
I mean in consumption numbers...if the computer is on in a rest it takes "z" power. if it renders (4 quad in my home within a week :)) how much it takes?
3 times "z" ? 10 times "z"?
just in terms of electricity............that`s why my electricity bill is too high?

i would assume when you do nothing on your computer you have maybe 10-20% consumption(depending on background processes and your setup)
when you render you have 100%, so thats 5-10x when rendering, average around 8x would sound reasonable to me...

from the apple site:
a macpro idle uses 170w
with max. cpu power 250w at 23C room temp.
if the ambient running environment is 35C
there's a 50w surpluse because of the higher fan speeds

so if I am about to change my processor (from duo 2 core to quad q9450)
which means at least 2.5 faster (wow !) does it mean it also 2.5 times power consumption?
or it the same cause the new processor use the same power effectively.

The CPU is not the only power hog. The graphics card eats like crazy. Of course, when the card is being pushed is not when its rendering and vice versa. My workstation has a 1000w power supply. I don't think it uses all that, some is just headroom. The wear will come from heating and cooling which causes expansion and contraction, therefore mechanical stress on components, and decay of insulators.
But remember--these machines are like racehorses--they were built to run. A workstation that is not rendering is a sad thing indeed.
