Hi all.
I was just wondering, if anybody has a clue how to make a material similar to the water dress Gisele is wearing in this picture:

Actually, I'm also wondering how to make the water, geometry wise, so that I don't drown my computer (so to speak) in a hell of metaball particles. But I guess this is no not the right thread, nor the forum for such a question :)
Any help would be much appreciated.
All the best, Simon.

Actually you should run perfect with a shader that describes what it resembles : water ;) meaning refraction index of 1,33 and fresnel reflectivity, inside some studio setup ;)
Don't even think about MetaBalls, if you're aiming for a still I'd model the rough to basic water surface/structure in ZBrush/ Mudbox or similiar... do the tinier details via Displacement/ Normalmaps,...
else Aiming for Animation, its Realflow for pros, and Blender/ Houdini Fluids for faster results, I guess ;)
have fun

Really? That simple, huh? Sounds great:) I guess the studio setup is quite important to get just right then.
Now, regarding the geometry, you're def. right about zbrush/mudbox. I don't own any of theese softwares, but I might look into buying zBrush for the job. It's def. affordable and the tut's on the site is really great and comprehensive. Looks like I could learn how to get the water structure in a day or so.
But what about "Paint on Surface". Do you think that could do the trick?
Hey, and thanks for the advice. Really, REALLY appreciate it:)

Well, I wouldn't call it simple to make it look realistic ;)
what do you mean by paint on surface ?
also be careful when rendering, to setup the shaders properly considering if the water geometry is intersecting with the body or not...
cheers and good luck

Well, mate. To be honest, I don't think it's was that hard to make it look realistic after all. Thanks to your guidence, I came up with theese 3 pic, wich was ideal for the purpose:

I'm sorry, I cannot embed the pictures. It's imagehack.
Paint on Surface is a plugin for C4d, that does exactly what it says:) I haven't had the chace to fool around with it, but it looks pretty cool.
Thanks again, mate.
