I would like to have a warning if a texture is missing.
Had some strange material behaviour yesterday until we found out that some material was missing (the other materials suddenly were all textured in UV mode although the projection was meant to be cubic...)

agreed. you can quickly manually check, but if you forget it just goes ahead and renders black. the AR warns you.
console shows info
or use rebus farminizer for scene check

I only have the console open when I program. In normal use, it's mostly closed.
Of course, one could open it. But a message like the AR spits out, would be nice, though.

the console only informs you if the C4D-warning pops up too. if textures in vray-materials are missing, there is no info in the console, at least not on my system (Vista 64 bit, R 11).

Well, it's not very obious. Rather hidden.
Like the bypass building plans that were on display in the Hitchhiker's Guide ^_^

i'm sorry but i don't agree. It's a pain when it pops up all the time and you cannot find that frikin texture in your whole scene.

If you can't find the texture, even though the pop-up message shows you the name of the related material, you should organize your materials in a better way ;-)
I prefer to spend a minute looking for the missing texture, than spending hours to render black planes.

Jack

well your are both right... because in c4d this popup is not scaleable, so if you have long paths for your texture, you know that one is missing, but you cannot see whichone...

i hate the pop ups myself.
i really do prefer the structure texture tool, thats whats it is made for. but it still lets me open or testrender a file that has some missing text.
it is a matter of taste i guess

If the structure tool wasn't that slow (if you are using textures from a server) i would use it more often, too.
what about showing missing textures in the console while rendering?

dual xeon, vista 64.
perhaps some network problems. the c4d-browser needs also 45 seconds to start

hmm, yes, c4d is actually quite fast with that. some things to consider maybe:
only what slows c4d down is if you set many texture paths in the cinema4d preferences. always best to reduce extra texture paths to a minimum( for all software). the browser takes also a few seconds here, but i have many many netdrives mounted.

i also have problems with material feedback as already said several times. i got one of the latest mac pro 8 core with kinda fresh xp install. what i ve already tried is "save project"...at desktop..deleted all texture paths in c4d preferences...but without any luck. it still takes very long to refresh certain materials...specially with complex setup (glossy reflections, refraction, many layers) and big textures. its also not possible to work with material preview size bigger than ...1024. my viewport stucks for several xx seconds... then as soon as i do a material change/refresh it stucks again. i have this problem with my both (identical) workstations.
