Mac OS does it all for you... and a lot of the little tweaks you can do will make almost no differance...
If you have a LOAD of RAM you could look at creating a RAM disk... it works a treat with Photoshop... and may make a bit of a difference with C4D..
If the 'Big Beastie' is a MacPro... make sure C4D is running in 64bit mode (it tells you in the bottom left of the splash screen)

OSX mac pro intel 8 core 32G Ram. How do i set up a RAM disk? and its running on 64Bit. My Boss bought all the Ram i had said 8G would be fine but he went nuts! so i really need to be able to utilise it.

no need for ram disk fro vray, just make sure you start c4d in 64bit mode. press apple i on the app icon and check 64 bit, on default it starts only with 32bit, you need v11 for that.
cheers

damn, your boss must be unaware of the current economic crunch - that 32GB of RAM costs an extra $7600 more than just 8GB
congrats on your new machine, btw :)

RAM Disk - http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?keywords=RAM+disk&starget=google
But if Stefan says its not much use... I would trust his opinion... I guess C4D and VrayforC4D are more processor & RAM hungry than they are read/write hungry...
But defiantly check it out if you do a lot of Photoshop/Automator work :)
The final thing to check out is overlocking... but do this at your own risk... http://blogs.computerworld.com/overclock_your_macpro_from_2_8ghz_to_3_24ghz_with_ easy_tool
I had mixed results.... system crashes V slight speed increases.
what will really annoy you is that the new Mac Pros are due out soon... and they are meant to be much quicker than mine and yours :(

Only if you make the mistake of buying RAM from Apple. The same exact memory is $1250 for 32GB at OWC (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/64FB4MPK32GB/). I'm sure you can find far better uses for the $6350 you save.
