View Full Version : workaround for alpha and stacked materials?

Hi I´m trying to convert a scene.
The scene has alphas in some materials and stacked materials.
I think i read in the cgtalkforum that this can´t be transfered via the material converter.

Is there a workaround for the following case:

A simple plane mapped with an image with text and alpha in the alpha channel of the material, so that the text seems to be slightly floating over
the background (a 3d map).
If I try to solve this via transparency then its not the same as with a cliping alpha, cause the specular that I have on the text won´t be cliped away in the black regions.
Hope its understandable

Thanks
holger

we soon give you a manual.
stacking works you need an alpha in material weight and activate mix in the 2nd materialtag.

the material weight is the similar to c4d alpha!

use the materialweight channel for alphas and stack the material as used and tag the mix texture option for stacking

for the alpha use the coloriser shader to invert the Alpha maps
a invert button misses here i remember is as suggestion to renato

sorry double post

had the same problem withan old map with an alpha, as we dont have an invert button, simply use the filter option, enable clipping and set the low clip at 100 and the high at 0, that will invert the black and white map

for inverting, add a layer to the image and under the drop down menu(when right clicking on the small pic icon) you find "invert" function

Stacking only seems to work once not like C4D Material Tags where you can have as many as you want. If you set a slection of poly's after a stacked material and apply a different material to it then the first material in the line is disabled. Will this be fixed? or made more flexible?

Any more on a solution to the multiple stacking problem? I'm trying to stack alphas onto glass to show 'fritting' (like the faded edges you get round car windscreens).

you can stack as many materials you want.
(make sure toi have "mix" activated in each stacked material tag.)

only stacking materials on selcetion tags is not supported yet,

i am trying to stack some materials now, but it does not want to work

stacking works you need an alpha in material weight and activate mix in the 2nd materialtag.

i did do this, but it shows white outside my image and not the texture... :?

can you post an image

images can say more than 1000 words

cheers belushy

maybe an screenshot would help even more

then you should invert the texture
