View Full Version : object and camera animation?

Ok i am testing how to do an object and camera move - my scene is just a couple of boxes that move about on a plane and my camera moves around them. For my render settings i am using irradiance map with animation prepass mode and saving into a file. Im also using lightcache single frame mode and again saving the file. I have also ticked the don't render final image box. This renders the gi stages fine and as expected. On reading the manual it seems for the second stage of the process i should change the irradiance map mode to animation render and read it from the saved gi files (there seems to be one for each frame) so i select the first one. I then do the same for the lightcache (read from file) and then uncheck the dont render final image box. My output video settings are all set up and i press render - now vray renders a black image and processes the frames in a few seconds and ends the render. Obviously im doing something wrong - can anyone help?

Anyone? I need to set a big animation away tomorrow and i can't get this object animation gi to work. Currently im just rendering single frame made and its real flickery but i can't do anything else! Might have to try brute force and hope it does in time.
pls someone explain this.
is there a way to render this in one step or do i have to composit the moving camera and the moving objects in postpro?

You cannot set a cached GI solution for the light cache with animated objects. Just camera animation.
If even only one object moves in your scene, then you'll have to render for object animation. So, just use IR with the prepass/render mode, then at render time (for the final shots), set the light cache in single frame mode as secondary (or brute force if you want).

so for the prepass, we have to turn off the secondary GI, right?

it looks like there is a bug here. I have tried all kinds of combinations but the fact remains that when you chose the animation render mode in the irradiance settings - you always get a black render that finishes in a few seconds regardless of whether you select render final image or not. turn gi off and the same settings will render the animation fine - but obviously without gi. Im not prepared to do the animation by faking the GI as that is the reason i bought Vray but i either have to put up with flicker or fake it.
I have tried fluffys suggestion and turned light cache off for the first stage and then back on for the second stage (single frame mode) and all i get is the light cache for each frame - no final image which makes me think there is a bug with the animation render mode as it seems to stop the final image being produced. Just thinking about it i have only seen flythrough animations done with vrayforc4d no object + camera animations yet. Has anyone done this or are people finding the same as me.
Im going to try it on a second PC now just to check that - hope thats the problem.
(v.1.05) ok i just did a test(moving cam+moving objects/c4d cam).used irr map prepass/animation mode.no secondary gi for prepass.in animation mode i used render animation (load the saved files)and tried both lc(single frame) and brute force in secondary gi.in the prepass i used 10fps in render final 25fps.what happens is that after starting to render the final image it took vray as second to start then it went through all frames in 50sec.frames stayed black.in the final tiff sequence watched in photoshop(cs3) all frames are black.i unchecked the "don´t render final image" before staring to render final image. maybe i missed something important...can anyone confirm this method or point me in a diffrent direction?thx

had similar problems in v1.04

This is my exact problem - glad im not the only one. The only thing i can think of is im not giving the right file name for the irradiance file - i just make a folder and call it irr. i then get an irr0001, irr0002..... one for each frame. I then select the first one in the folder (irr0001) when asked to by the anim render mode. I really hope its user error because im going to get shot if i can't get it to work, im working all weekend as it is.
I also tried another machine and same story.....
Is there any alternative to using the animation render mode - even if it takes a bit longer I don't care i just need something which looks good (vray GI) and doesn't flicker like mad. When i say a bit longer im not talking 10mins a frame longer though!
i named my irr fils"SC_01_ir" and also chose the first irr file in the irrmap box,no luck.it automatically adds the numbers to the given filename.
i just took antoher look at my "black" images. in each frame i checked (chose 5 random ones) there is a single white pixel in the upper left corner....sombody confirm this maybe....

Sorry as far as i can see mine are just black but im saving straight to a compressed avi (for testing) so it might have got lossed and my test render size is only 400pix wide so could easily not be showing up. I am just using low quality GI and not the medium quality animation preset which might have an extra switch in there - thats the only thing I can think of at the mo.
It would be nice if one of the powers that be could confirm if they are reading this thread as we might just be going round in circles ourselves
Cheers.

ah i see, you may not choose the first file, you set the path to all files!!!
so when i save the anim pass to: Z:\GI\111
i set the same path when rendering the anim render pass: Z:\GI\111
(best just copy paste it)
vray automaticly loads then the files corresponding to each frame.
hope that helps
cheers
stefan
thanks stefan,...it works now!!!
(simple Copy paste)
my new render clients just arrived,i guess i´ll have a working weekend....
thanks so much :D

oh sorry just email you another scene! But just tried the copy and place of the irradience folder directory into the anim render file and its not made a diff for me so i must be doing something else wrong. Any chance you could have a look at mine stefan?....
Glad its working for you guys though so it must just be me being a dumb ass

i send you an email with it...

stefan
p.s. the worksteps:
1) render IR with path to save the gi files (dont render final image on),
2) use IR+bruteforce for objectanimation
3) load same path in IR animation renderpass
4) render
finish- thats it.

woo hoo im rendering! After many blank files and even cinema crashes I think im on the winning track thanks to stefan. My problem was that i wasn't referancing the irradiance file properly. I found i needed to copy and paste the irradiance folder location (from the address bar in windows explorer) and paste that into the file loader under the anim render mode bar. BUT THEN follow that directory with a \1 and everything worked. the \1 was the bit that was stumping me but all is fine now (i hope)!
Thanks for all your help stefan
Cheers

\1 is just measn the file get the name "1".
the "\" juts specifies a folder.
i make it like this:
i set a path in c4d interface,
and then simply copy the path from the c4d interface in the other location(for from file)
cheers
