What's wrong with Joomla? Works fine.

Tong
10-08-2007, 07:35 AM
Number of MySql queries, it`s too high for one user, more then 1K users and site is down.

Basically without http://www.joomlatwork.com/products/components/joomla_performance.html
with joomla nothing to do.

You can use wordpress for cms part of job. and if you will have any problems etc. let me know - I'll help you.

Yea another one big huge engine for dummies

Hmm I think that WP is ok engine, but of course you may have right - but maybe you suggest other engine? I'm webdesigner more that 10 years, I made more than 150 working websites - part of them based on WP. So I'm really curious what you can suggest? (with no offence of course). :)

Tong

Drupal

TextPattern

DataLife

;-)

station75

I tested only one of them and Textpattern is good but I don't like drupal and data life (look at the data life website - hmm they use tables and rest old stuff :D) but like I wrote before - it's your opinion and for me is ok. I choose WP because I made several commercial integration and clients are happy (ease to learn, code is friendly for spiders, browsers) and dev part of their website give me all support that I need. I'm using several addons (newsleeter, lightbox etc) and everything works fine.

I never use Textpattern but looks very good for me.
Do you use drupal/data life in any website? It's easy to install/integration etc? How about using it? I'm asking because I'm open to new ideas and I have to do several websites before end of that year and they need cms to use.

why you don`t like drupal ?

Yes, I made some DLE sites. the is no tables, only divs (web 2.0 sites), Template system similar to phpbb (tpl files) and it`s very optimized engine, all things have cache, queries makes only when they real needed. Good admin panel - simple and fast, Integration to phpbb, ipb, vbulletin etc.

But it's only mine opinion ;-)

I don't know why I don't like drupal :D

But some words about Data Life - your description sounds interesting - I need from cms platform several things:
- cms and good panel (you wrote DL have that)
- newsletter with graphics and html/xhtml code
- galleries with subgleries
- poll
- search
- wysiwyg editor
- good support (any good sites about DL?)

We are striving for the site... But thanks to this great community, we already have nice examples already in this forum.

Vray for max has this advantage. General vraymax users do nothing, but collect together the ready vray materials, even light setups. They also have very large collection of models (furniture and stuff) for max. What they do is a simple "collage". It is no big deal. But the nice examples in this forum are encouraging me to learn the innerworks.

Thanks to you all.

P.S: We are really striving for the site.

"General vraymax users do nothing, but collect together the ready vray materials"

definitly not emre, some home users maybe,
i know quite some max vray users here, they all do their setups for their own, as most preset you find for vray max are bad more or less, at least not of highest quality.

they all have their own "homemade" libaries, and they keep them as their secrets...

also for vrayforc4d i would suggest to get into it and start your own good stuff, this is also the only way to learn a renderengine really.
people that depend on foreign presets will never get the highest quality out of their tools

cheers
stefan

p.s. for modells this is true, they have a great evermotion libary, but this is easily convertable to c4d too, you need a max demo though.

can you give any dates for the site - because as I remember you were telling that it would be up by the end of october.

I was wondering the same. Also, the finished PDF manual seems to be taking longer to complete than the Great Wall of China.

Well, if the creation of the newly updated PDF manual is anything to go by then I would expect the material repository to be up sometime in 2010. Don't hold your breath....

Neil. V-ray for c4d is still fairly new. There is a lot of work involved in creating a manual for a software which is constantly been updated.
I wouldn't fancy having to write a manual for one of the most complected pieces of software around.
Give it time.

Cian.

I agree that Vray for C4D is fairly new but Vray itself is not. It has already been available for some considerable time for other apps like Max etc. The C4D version is inherently the same so I can't understand why it can take so long to write a manual about it.

Secondly, concerning the Material Repository we have had numerous promises that it will online 'very shortly'. To illustrate my point on Sunday 20th January Tong wrote "i completing it today, tomorrow will be check for errors by Stefan, and it will be on-line.

sorry for long time waiting."

Well that was nearly a month ago. How long can it take to set up a simple website / page to host files? One week maximum?

I understand your point but I think it is clear why some users are getting a little frustrated. The VrayforC4D team shouldn't promise things they can't deliver. They should have learned that the first time round when they initially announced VRay but it took over a year for it to materialise.

Neil, keep in mind that Tong is not remunerated for his efforts, so it's completely from his own free time that he provides material for Vray.
I understand your point, though, if something is not ready, then it shouldn't be announced as such.

The Vray manual (for 3DS Max) has always been available since release, so I guess there wasn't a huge need for it. Now that the C4D translator is starting to puff up, a specific manual is more in demand, which is understandable, but the basic material was originally there.

Neil V

Point taken Fluffy about Tong having to work on it in his spare time. But such a wonderful render engine should have a fully fledged, complete manual with examples, and the odd mini tutorial.

The Vray team has done a great job of bringing this engine to our 3D app of choice. However, I stand by what I say about the delays becoming drawn out to the point of absurdity.

Fluffy

I guess we have to take into account the history behind the development. Vray was originally started by a frustrated user (Stefan), who wanted to make a quick connection to this existing render engine.
Renato and Daniele jumped the boat and provided the skills needed to make such a connection, and have not stopped since.
I guess releasing material in addition to the application takes more time than they expected, since each of them still work at their regular job.
Hence the constant "beta" state and ongoing development, as well as the delay behind providing good tutorials, manuals and websites as content, as well as the participation of people outside the core team (Tong).

I think the important point is that we have a fully working and rock solid plugin, exceeding our initial expectations (again, remember that when announced originally, it wasn't supposed to support C4D features so deeply, that's why it took a year to come out). The basic manual for Vray for Max is good, good enough to use the software professionally, and the rest is just icing on the cake, hardly something mandatory for the team.

Nice discussion on this theme.

Let me put my thoughts in. I used c4dtextures.com for a while. One feature this database will need is the function to display type of shader.

For ex. is there a plugin i need. (Enhance etc.)

Do i need textures. (i like to make my scenes with 99% shaders; textures only where there is a logo etc.).

@ manfaces And the idea to have a database for stuff like light and scenes would also be great. I always try to learn from others and share my experience with them.

jepp your right. sharing means caring :-) i just started to work with vray and cinema 4d porfessional and there is so much to learn for me. in this forum are some very very talented people.. and these people make me do what i do. to be like them create new stuff for other people. beeing creative is finding yourself. i want to touch other with my work to be someone. little bit philosophic but design, art and creativity all these things are nothing else. it's for your soul your heart your mind.
keep everything open. :D
i love to be creative and i will never do something else.

I concur with Fluff, materials are a bonus to what has already been a great feat for these guys and a sweet treat for us with the development of VRAY. Without them I would still be pulling hairs out of my already hairless head with AR. There is plenty of information in the forum to create endless materials. There's nothing wrong with working the fields a bit on your own without grumbling until they can dial them in. It is hard to image all they do keeping up with this forum, the updates, the manual, the materials, all on top of the daily grind. Hats off!
