Am I correct in thinking that IES lights are only visible against a ceiling or wall? I won't be able to set them up as a light from say a hanging lamp in the center of the room or a table lamp? Just checking to see if I am missing something. :-) Thanks for any replies.
Kath
No you don`t right, IES it`s only data for light, it can be any light source wall, in center , outdoor any light.
Here is small list of IES files of manufactures

Thank you Tong, for some reason when I put a light in the center of the room in a hanging lamp or in a table lamp, I can't see it. Only when it's against the wall. I must have some settings wrong. Any tips on settings for one out in a lamp or the center of the room? :-)
SmallExample, time is now ;-) Did Lamp has glass?

You can use Multiplier for IES light, it not phyc. right (it`s for wrong scaled object and light) but light will bi brighter in your scene i think

did you have everything in scale? IES is absolutly, superduper-scale dependent ;-)
And if you have a 40Watt IES in a room, then you will need to adjust F_Number, SHutterspeed and probably ISO of the camera
