The 'Vertex Normal' tag often comes with imported CAD meshes and (in most cases) helps to get the correct shading for those ugly CAD meshes. I suppose the tag is not yet taken into account, since CAD meshes often produce strang shading.
But since it sometimes also happens with booled meshes, it may also be a bug when working with geometry with bad triangle structure.
For example this one.
You can see that the shading is broken at locations with curved geometry.
