View Full Version : Use Vertex Normal tag

The 'Vertex Normal' tag often comes with imported CAD meshes and (in most cases) helps to get the correct shading for those ugly CAD meshes. I suppose the tag is not yet taken into account, since CAD meshes often produce strang shading.

But since it sometimes also happens with booled meshes, it may also be a bug when working with geometry with bad triangle structure.

For example this one.
You can see that the shading is broken at locations with curved geometry.

For easy comparison, here is a rendering of the same model I did with Advanced Render:

I second that! It is vital as soon as you work with imported data!

Jack, have you cheked on the dircetion of the normals? cause I have noticed that Vray only has a problem when the normals are pointed inwards (seems a bit strange), the standrs cinema renderer does not have this problem.
Unfortunately we can´t touch any of the exported geometry...., cause it will demolisch the normal tag...

...while writing I rechecked the issue, and Ican defenenetly say that vray is tkaing the normal tag into consideration, it does make a diffrence if I throw it away....
