View Full Version : Walk test / GI in animation

Hi,

I made a little walkthrough test, a short one. Just physical sky & sun, three cubes, a plane and some static cloth.

http://www.c4d-jack.de/darkside/vray/vraywalk_0067.jpg (http://www.c4d-jack.de/darkside/vray/vraywalk_h264.mov)
http://www.c4d-jack.de/darkside/vray/vraywalk_h264.mov (3.4 MB, MOV, H.264)

Two problems are obvious:

1. A strong flickering can be seen on the cloth and mirror spheres. Is there a standard way to get flicker free GI in vRay? Or is it just the low quality settings I used to make it render quickly?

2. The shading of the cloth is absolutely crappy. I wanted to use fresnel to influence the transparency, but it looks somehow wrong. In addition to this, I can't figure out how to get a standard translucency effect for the cloth. I would like to use the backlight shader of Cinema4D, but can it also be done within the vRay material?

Here's the scene file:

Greetings,
Jack

P.S.: Yes, I know. The lense distortion may be a bit too much... ;-)

To help with camera animation flicker you must build an incremental irradiance map for the camera path and then load it for the final render. You will probably have to tweak increments and GI settings depending on your scene, but here is your scene, Medium Quality, Irradiance Map & Brute Force with a 10 frame incremental irradiance map used for final output.

Can you post the scene, so I can look at the settings?
I can't play your mov file, it gives me a 'Buffer overrun' error.

Thanks in advance ;-)

Here is the scene set to render incremental map.

Movie is Quicktime7.2- 340kb with h.264. Maybe a version conflick? Plays ok for me.

i rendered the scene you post after5 and i got it saved at a specific file then what to do to render it complete?

i tried in ir to load from file then render it with unchecking dont render final image and choosed quicktime tiff to save anim path
but when i try to collect the images together it run fast like a blink
ill upload the video soon

ist becuse the fram are set to 10 in the output? do i change it to 1

It sounds like the frame step is still set to 10 on the output tab. You need to set back to 1, then render all the frames.

So, to sum it up, all I have to do is the following?

- Render some (?) frames with the incremental multiframe map setting
- Then abort rendering process
- Choose "from file" in the irradiance map settings
- Select file
- Render again

Is that all?

No, can't be. If I do it like that, I get funny colorful areas on my walls and floor.

Thanks & greetings,
Jack

Basically yes, you need to build an incremental irradiance map along the camera path and then use it for the final render. Your GI settings and number of increments will dictate the quality if the irradiance map. Read through the thread that Zulu had referred too, may help clear up your questions.

c4d-jack . i opened the sequel with quicktime, can you please tell me the best settings to export it in a low size with high resolution please?
its huge like 143mb

I have read that thread, but something is still wrong.

In the tutorial, 1.16., an image of the light cache is shown, mine looks *totally* different. It's really just a gigantic light cache of one single frame. In all other frames, the lighting looks totally weird.
I rendered the last frame of my animation, it took very long (just as described in the thread), but the light cache is simply wrong.

Is there some kind of video tutorial showing how to do it in VrayForC4D?

@glass: I always use medium quality, and one allow a keyframe every 2 or 3 seconds. That keeps it small in most of the cases.

Yes, medium quality in the H.264 settings, when exporting the movies from the rendered image sequence. Works fine here.

OK, I really didn't get any acceptable result with the method described in this MAX tutorial.

So I just rendered every 10th frame and stored the irradiance map and the light cache in separate files. Those files I used for final rendering. That's all. Works fine.
Final Rendertime about 2:20 minutes per frame. I guess, that's because of better AntiAliasing and because of the ivy. Also, a higher resolution was used than in my first test.

Here's my result:

http://www.c4d-jack.de/darkside/vray/vraywalk_h264.mov (MOV, H.264, 11 MB)

That's it, I am now offline for about 3 weeks.
Flying to turkey this evening. So long, folks...

Jack

for moving objects multiframe incremtal is not perfect, use animation prepass and animation render in IR map.
should give perfect result then, absolute flicker free:-)

cheers

for moving objects multiframe incremtal is not perfect,

hi Stefan,
i've used multiframe inc. in IR settings. both my cam. and my objects move.

could this be why these blotches appear on my moving objects?
