View Full Version : Alpha previsualization in viewports could be better

I was looking for this subject but I could not find it. My apologies if it is there.

I was passing my libraries of 2d trees and people to Vray and I observed that the pre-visualization in viewports is terrible (sorry but it is). I have tried different combinations of parameters and still crap.

I found a way around the issue and now I can see correctly in viewports but it is a real P.I.T.A. It must be another way to do this !!

Suggestions? I would appreciate some before I rebuild my entire library with the painful trick.

what i detail does not fit for you?
i am not sure i understand you.

can you show me an example. here it looks fine with any alpha i use.
i assume you use vray 1.1 (older versions did have no alpha ogl preview)?

as cinema4d uses inverted alphas to the rest you might have to invert the alphas. thats all. there is extra the invert button to make that easy.

put the "map preview size" under "OGL textures" in your material to a higher resolution. this should help for the preview. cheers.

That was my first idea, I have tried all, including the 2048x2048 and it looks the same. In any case using that high of preview will burn the memory if I use several figures and trees. Any other sugestion?

hmm, no sorry. but, once i had a problem with alphas, because black wasnt 100% black. but i guess thats not the problem here...i solved it by putting a filter in front with higer contrast.

yea, i wrote this two problems since first version. never got a concrete answer why.. and how to fix. i can set the ar material editor preview size up to the highest (4096x4096)...it loads maximum a second and then works without any problem...with vray material i cant even set the preview size to 512x512..and my memory freaks out.

i doubt this is a hardware problem since i got some of the newst mac pros wiht a lot of gpu and system ram.
