Hi All,

I have a question about the displacement Tag.
How knows Vray how to map the Displacement? Does it use the settings from the Texturetag?
If so, how can you set it different. For example if you have a wall and you only want to have some displacement on the bottom side of the wall?
How can I tell vray where to displace the geometry?

Peace,
Rich_Art.

Hi guys,
the VrayDisplacement Tag use the mapping coordinates from the left most texture tag.

Cheers
Daniele

Hello Rich,

If you want to give to a single side them dsp for your polygon object.

selections the polygon

set selection

split

duplicate the material (rename it)

As Daniel has said copy and paste the coordinates of Tex on your material in the dsp.

Well I tried, but I can't get it to work. :(

Hi Cristian,

1. When you say "set selection" and "split" do you mean create a Set Selection tag, drop the Selection Tag where? and from C4D>Functions>Split?

2. What does "...paste the coordinates of Tex on your material in the dsp." mean? Coordinates from where? Paste the coordinates on the Vray dsp tag and where on the tag?

Cheers,

Leonard

Best.

That sounds good Cristian. Thanks.

I tried some tests to put grass on the top poly of a cube and this is what I got:
1. Started with a simple cube, made editable.
2. Added a color map to the cube (converted to Vray mat).
3. Activated the top poly and used C4D>Functions>Split to split it apart from the cube.
4. Now there are two parts, the original cube and the poly floating directly above the cube.
5. Apply mat to the poly.
6. Add a Vray Displacement Tag.
7. Select the VD Tag and its Geometry Parameters tab to check "On" on.
8. Still in the VD Tag, select the Mapping Parameters tab and do the following:
a. Click on Texture and select something. I used Noise.
b. In the Amount box, insert a dimension or length.
c. In the Shift box, add a negative dimension to counter the material that floats up when it is displaced. Depending on the neg. dim. inserted, it will bring the displaced material back down toward the poly.
d. Make sure the last item, Keep Continuity, is checked.

I rendered with Render Region (time!) and had three objects - the original cube, the poly floating above the cube and the displaced material.

I do not know if this is right and I still am lost about pasting the coordinates. So, maybe someone would c&c this process.

Cheers.

Leonard
