hi ,
i have some trouble with creating dicplacement:
i create a simple cube, than using a simpel c4d noise as displ.map.
the displacement works, but the cube is destroyed! How can i avoid that the planes will be cut?

another question:

when using a plane, than always the plane goes up, its floating above the surface.
the y-koordinate is 0.0 but after "displacement is used, the base is higher.
how can i control this parameter?

thanks and greetings

Check in Displacment Tag: Mapping Parametres - Keep Continuity

you used displ to BOTH sides of object.

thanks, it works!

Keep continuity does not always work sometimes you have to re-arrange your uv mapping so that everything is visible and joined together. I had problems with this as well.

Don't forget to set the shift value to half your displacement value (i.e: displacement of 5cm, shift of -2.5cm).
A quick explanation about this parameter :
- without shift, it equates to setting displacement in "intensity" mode, which means that black is 0% elevation, and white 100% elevation.
- with shift, it's similar to the "intensity center" mode, in which black means -100% elevation, 50% grey equals 0% elevation, and white equals 100% elevation

So, without shift, you effectively push all displacement outward, and if your shader does not have any pure black, then your model will change position completely.

Thanks Fluffy. I'll remember that.

Fluffy! I was wondering what that "Shift" was all about! This came just in time: I was beginning to feel like I was stuffing helium-filled balloons in a bag, trying to keep the rug on the floor.
