View Full Version : saving GI solution

start reading through the manual to figure out this monster.

it says for the GI setting i can save smaller GI solution(800x400 for example) and use it for a higher resolution scene(5000x2500).(page 40)

question is how do save GI solution?
is there a 'bake GI solution' button somewhere? or, only way to do is to render the scene through picture viewer?

thanks,

hb

so i guess for the animation, first i need to do 'anim prepass' with auto save and then use 'anim render.'

the thing is i get sequence of ir map files and under anim render setting i can only load a single file, not the sequence of them. and if i render it, it renders black frames.

what am i missing and is this the right way to render animation?
with regular still setting, animation flickers.

thanks in advance.

Hi, there is a tread about this already on this forum.
Don't remember the subject title, but maybe you can do a search.

Kind regards, Robert

Hi garin2,
the Anim prepass and Anim render method are for moving objects only. For a walkthrough animation you should use the Multiframe incremental method, well explained in a video from Cristian Tumiati that you can find in this forum.
Anyway in the upcoming 1.1 release there will be an automatic animation procedure plugin.

thanks daniel

for the last two days i went though tutorials and tutorials and now it all makes sense.

a few questions.
i did a test. first i saved ir map primary with ani prepass. after that i did final render, one with light cache and another with brute force as secondary bounce.(both default setting) here i found some problems.

brute force creates a lot of animating soft noises especially in the shadow area.
light cache produces cleaner images but in animation it slightly flickers.

any solutions to create less noise and flicker free animation using light cache? the reason i prefer using ir map/light cache is that i can save both gi solution and use render farm to render higher resolution(2k size i'm planning)

any solution?

Hi garin2,
are you doing a walkthrough animation or an animation where there are moving objects?
In any case with the Brute Force try to use higher interpolation value for the Irradiance map and more bounces for the Brute Force.

sorry...

daniel,

i have a scene which has moving spot lights and objects; i know it's the worst scenario.

i'll try with ir map(1st) and bruteF(2nd) with a higher value as you suggested. hope my 2k render doesn't take too long.

so, for the flicker free movie, i must go with bruteF, right? and some tutorial i read to use bruteF as a primary bounce. and i'm sure it'll turn out better but it's just that i'm afraid it'll take too long. tight deadline always...

Hi garin2,
for your scenario, you should use the Anim prepass and Anim render methods. I'll go with Irradiance Map as primary engine and Light cache as secondary with high quality settings for both.

so my process will be

1. save light cache for entire length of animation(1-210)
- lightC(1) lightC(2),
- scale : screen(or world?)
- mode : single frame(path tracing......)
- c4d frame step : 1

2. save ir map with ani prepass
- ir map(1) lightC(2)
- read lightC from file

3. read both ir map (ani render) and light cache from files(ntsc size) and fire 2k size with render farm.

sounds like a good scenario?

when i auto-save lightcache and ir map should i use one machine or can i use renderfarm? you know, for c4d object gi animation you should use one machine to avoid flickers because it analyzes previous frames. not sure how vray gi works.

I was struggling with it too... Stefan advised me (THANKS!)... and the tricky part is that the path you set for loading the ir map is confusing... it may not have the framenumber... so actually you copy the path from save...

no more black frames ;) ... rendering now!

yes best copy and paste...then you are 100% sure you have the correct path, also it is the fastest method.
