Hi,

sometimes one needs to relax a bit. Can't fumble with SurfaceSPREAD all the time. So I took 1.5 days off and wrote a little free plugin...

Sidewalk is a parametric... well, a sidewalk, as it can be seen here (http://img.i7m.de/images/la2ht-7cjch-lgnhi-5b8ui.jpg). It was inspired by Fredi Voss' Sidewalk Tutorial (http://c4dnetwork.com/board/showthread.php?t=7500) (in german).

Here's a little test image (I know, the materials won't win a price):
http://img.i7m.de/show/uk7dp.jpg.

The plugin is free and was successfully tested in R10, R11.0 and R11.5. Of course, it runs in 32 and 64 bit mode. Currently there is no MAC build yet, but that will be added soon. Sidewalk is currently in beta state and it's likely that some features will be added, or that the GUI will change.

Download here (http://www.c4d-jack.de/html/downloads/dl_exp_modelling.html) (Website is in German, just download "Sidewalk")

Have fun with it,
Jack

Had some minutes to improve it a little...

v1.00.03
Now you can also create curbstones. Also, there's a slider which is used to eliminate random elements, to simulate a damaged sidewalk.

There's still no MAC build, but it will come soon.

Download is still here:

Hi Jack,

Can we expect a mac version soon ?
It's really interesting and not only for ground.

Thanks.

There will be a Mac version, of course.

But since I don't have a Mac, somebody else compiles it for me, so I have to wait. Also, the MAC compiler often throws some errors which don't occur on the PC compiler. I have to fix those errors first.

Also, I still have something else to do :D

This is really brilliant - is it possible to make the pavement go around a corner?

Cool stuff and very kind of you to put it on this site free of charge.

Jeremy.

And here it is for Mac!
Thanks to Don from Py4D.com for compiling!

@Jeremy: If someday I will have lots of free time, I may think of a Sidewalk Corner Object. Anyway, I have not yet figured out any working algorithm to create those automatically. Also, there's no free time at the moment.

Greetings,
Jack

Hi Jack - thanks for the response - I think you should be perhaps selling this stuff anyway - it's fabulous!

I wouldn't make any money with other people's ideas. And since the Sidewalk plugin just automates the same steps of work that are shown in Fredi Voss' Sidewalk Tutorial, it's actually him who did most of the work (in sense of research & development of the actual work to do). I just translated German Language to code ;-)

Cheers,
Jack

A special thanks to your wife for allowing you to spend some free time on this clever tool. And thanks to you for producing and sharing it.
