Hey guys, I’m doing some experimenting with displacement.
I was hoping that I could use the spline shader in the displacement-tag, but as you can see on the attachment I get a lot of distortion.

I copied the left sphere and replaced the spline shader with the tiles shader.
As you can see, the tiles shader gives good results.

Any idea what is happening here and how tp solve it?

Well, I tried several setting in the displacement tag, no luck.
Also tried to subdivide the sphere further then the right sphere.
The star shader gives the same results (distortions).

Anyone has an idea?

Have you tried turning "Keep Continuity" on within the displacement tab?

Also, try changing the sampling from MIP to Alias 2 or 3 which should smooth out the edges. You could also try lowering the Edge length value? although this will increase render times.

Also having just messed about with it, in the Spline shader settings, try upping the "Smooth Width" a couple of percent. It worked for me.

Hi 1066, Yes I tried the "Keep Continuity", doesn't work.
I cannot select the sampling method, thought they where for Bitmaps only.

can you show us the spline displacement map.

I tried the initial spline shader with text spline (abc).
