Can you give me an idea on what controls the specular settings here in the render that cause the sharp artifacts? I have set a blur in the specular channel of the material and am using "Adaptive DMC" in the anti-aliasing. With or without the filter on, doesn't seem to make a difference, I still see the artifacts. Any other tips for lighting the scene with jewelry would be appreciaed also. :-)

One area light is used. Thanks for any ideas.

do you use "subpixel mapping" in color mapping?

yes, and also enable the filter down Adabtive DMC, choose sinclancoz

MUCH MUCH better. :-) Thank you so much! Now I just have to get my lighting correct. I'd like more light and some deeper shadows.
