hi all,
we all know it, but not all do it all the time, i also was lazy with backup and lost many of my work.

i already had the backup disks in the office but not yet the time to make a full backup from the main server raid.

it was a 500GB raid5, no disk crashed, but the adaptect raid controller last night suddenly didn find the raid volume anymore..."failiure status"...

so also raid are not bullet proof, not at all as i heard now.

DO BACKUPS, DO IT A.S.A.P.!!!

i gave it to disk repair professionals but it is rather uncertain if they will be able to rescue data i think.

hurts very much:-(
cheers

p.s. no vray data is lost no fear...

As i'm a network engineer I could tell you that a raid config is not 100% safe.
be sure to backup your data. In our client servers we always use tapestreamers to backup data everyday. raid 5 works great with a disk crash. just insert a new drive and you're done.
But when a raid controller fails you will loose everything.
So Please be sure to make a backup everyday.......

Sorry to hear your data is lost....

Peace,

Stefan, sorry to hear that - so unfortunate. I hope they are able to recover the data. Best of luck.

Ah, I had this happen on my raid0 after a power failure.
Messed up my whole system, and of course I lost some stuff as well (fortunately, I'm used to back up regularly on two external hard drives).

My advice would be to purchase a battery, they can last for 20 minutes without power, ample time to save your data a shut down the computer safely.
