At Scriptspot.com there are tons of scripts to give you ideas.
One that I use every day is a little guy called Quickrender. It saves the current settings, then allows you to downgrade the settings to return super fast renders: IR+LC=Stupid Low, Very Low, Low... Very, very handy
This doesn't seem like it would be tough to script, but then I've never done any scripting so who knows? ;0)
