Vray v1.2 without original C4D

Is it possible to work Vray v1.2 without original C4D?
To avoid misunderstanding, Vray will be a graduation gift for my collegue!
So, can I buy a Vray v1.2 only, without original C4D, and will it work for me anyhow (for e.g.: with a serial, or something...)?

you can buy it, but later we need a serial from your collegue.
vray needs as host c4d top work, so the collegue needs a c4d base 10.5 or newer at least.

He's got an R11.5 original (I think)... So, you said he can't even try out Vray without serial (of course after buying)? Or serial needs only for registrating?

well the serial is to run the software, as it is with most software and c4d plugins.
the vray license key is bound to that c4d version with that serial then.

if he has a c4d he has also a serial, so 100% he has a serial - c4d doesnt run without serials either;-)
