I have pretty much started from scratch not knowing a great deal about Vray, but absolutely love the work flow and fell into it very easily. I especially like the physical camera as it just makes getting the image right that much easier because as a photographer it's something I can relate to. I have noticed some artefacts creeping in and would love to know how to avoid them. Specifically the rather jagged antialiasing ( or lack of ) on the luminant materials which I can't seem to budge, and the hilight on the silver tankard/trophy thing which is white with a black outline.

This is such a great addition to cinema it has me quite at a loss for words.

I better get back to work but thanks again for an amazing job. Oh and one last thing I used this all day without a single hang or crash. Beautiful ( Eon software take note and your crappy Ozone plugin).

One last thing I noticed was the great Enhance noises from 3d Attack turned a 20 sec render into a 1min 20 sec render. There was a big hit with these shaders, so maybe they aren't optimised for vray. If your'e listening 3d Attack I think they need a bit of optimisation to fly with Vray.

Wow - look at those render times for the quality of light! - impressive :D

Wow, really nice renders and render times Richard! I'm very curious to know what hardware setup gave you those?

I've seen those artifacts in quite a few VRay renders and would also really like to know if there is a way do get rid of them when I get this installed.

Cheers,
Stéphane

Frankly, I'll take those mild artifacts any day rather than spending hours in photoshop blurring out AR splotches.
after a bit of playing looks like Stefan has not been telling fables:
Vray is so much quicker than AR

thanks guys. I was astounded by how quick it is. I am using an Intel Mac Pro Quad core 3ghz with 4gb of ram. It slices through these set-ups like butter. I can't believe the light quality and lack of splotches with the times these frames took. Also it was nice to see all four processors maxed out to get these times. It has been optimised incredibly well I think.

I am seriously thinking that I may never go back to AR. The VRay Material is so good and the physical camera does some great stuff. It's going to be hard I can tell you.

Damn those are some nice render times. What machine are you using?

Sorry on my ecixte state I didn't read the post above mine. Sorry.

Specifically the rather jagged antialiasing ( or lack of ) on the luminant materials which I can't seem to budge, and the hilight on the silver tankard/trophy thing which is white with a black outline...You would typically remove them by checking the "Clamp output" and "Sub-pixel mapping" options for the Color mapping.

...i feel the same. i love c4d and using vray i still feel being at c4d:-)

thanks vlado for beeing here and help too!:-)

how did you do that rainbow colored light?

Probably a simple gradient in the luminance channel.

It would be nice to have this 'fluorescent snake' in the mat-repositary !
Who cares ?

Thanks,

vray really good at objects which have luminance channel so lighting other objects.

Probably a simple gradient in the luminance channel.

Probably using a UV map so the simple gradient can follow the bends of the 'snake'.

the UVs are generated automatically when using a sweep NURBS, so I don't think that step was actually done here, but good to mention it, thanks :)

Shows how much I use sweep NURBS.
