does hair and fur in c4d can't be rendered by vray?
i guess it's the same problem with 3dsmax hair and fur...
so any tools which can be used to create hair/fur.. maybe something like vrayfur in 3dsmax.. or maybe another hair tools in c4d
thx :)

Polygonal Hair et fur can be used (and instanced objects from Hair as well), and the polygonal hair shader can somewhat helps achieve a pretty good hair feel (with various speculars and transparency controls).
Polygonal Hair can use a lot of memory, though, so it needs to be used sparsely for now.
Real Hair (the 2D effect) is currently in the works, along with volumetric effects.
You can render Hair on a separate pass from C4D's render engine, though, and composite afterward. Works fine for both still images and animations.

Hi meandmysky,
we are working on native render, directly from vray, of Hair (not polygonal render, but the real volumetric one). Renato already had good results.

Hi
If I create Grass using C4D Hair module can that be rendered using VRay? If it can could someone tell me how? I can't get anything to show...
TIA

No, the Hair renderer is a 2D effect that only works with Cinema4D at the moment.
You can either render a separate pass of the 2D hair in C4D and composite later, or have Hair generate geometry and render it directly in Vray.
thx Fluffy
how do you have hair generate geometry? I can't see where that's done.
TIA

Ah, that's a tough one. Let me see... what could the "generate" tab be all about? ;)

Might be a dumb question  but where is the "generate button"?
I didn't even know you could convert hair to polygons.

... select the Hair object.
In the AM go to the tab: Generate
Select type: Flat or Triangle (to convert your hairs to a polygon mesh)
Hit C
done

OH!
Ok that was easy -.-
Thx!
But one thing is strange: my hair(grass) doesn't have much color now anymore. instead of green it's now light grey and brown. does anyone know anything about this?
EDIT: Hm ok it's obvious since it is no vray material
Works fine now!

Normally the Hair material is a gradient (color) You can select this gradient and copy it. In the new (VRAY) material you can set color to gradient (Type 2D-V) and paste the colors into that channel.
By making the Hair object editable it now has a UVW tag. Just apply the newly created material to the polygon object and set Projection to: UVW Mapping.
Hope that helps

No need to make the hair object editable (unless you want to save some memory at render time). Just place the Vray material on the Hair object, and make sure to leave the original Hair material as well (since it controls the shape of the hairs).

OK... I didn't know that. :o
