I am really struggling to get Glass looking like glass. I have read a few of these now and it seems that alot of people are struggling with the same problem. One of the main reasons is getting realistic reflections from the sky. In the built in GI renderer this is very simple simple using a sphere and HDRI or Environment. I have played around with both of these options in the Vray settings with no look apart from total blow out in the reflections, not the nice soft sky reflections that are hoped for. Rendering with IR as first, LC as second, HSV Exponential. Tried HDRI maps inthe GI Env and Reflection but get nothing back?!

Any ideas (sphere's with HDRI, if so what kind of settings because I am getting no good feedback at all, good tutorials on this issue or a good Glass material that doesn't come out black in renders and reflects nice would be extremely well recieved.

Many thanks.

forrestter,

There is a good glass material here on the forum. I took the exterior scene from the resources section here and added the glass material and it worked fine didn't tweak anything.

Check the link below and let me know how that works. I honestly can't where on here I got it. The scene from glass.use also in the resource section.

Thanks the Glass worked very well. Had no reflection but added that. Also the main problem I had was because I was using glass as a single pane polygon as the scene includes about 30 buildings, each with hundreds/thousands of polygons. So this may be a lesson to others who have had the same problem as myself with dark black glass, also try using a physical sky in the light settings for more realistic reflections.

for single plain glass you need to use an ior of 1
also make sure to activate affect shadow in the refraction.
