So i have recently switched to MAC...

I bought myself a 17 inch MAC Book Pro...because I am travelling a lot this year and at the moment doing more freelance photography than 3D.
I will no doubt soon have some large memory intensive projects on the go and my question is thus.
When I used to work in C4D VRay on PC I would often run out of memory but at least in the task manager I could see how the CPU's were working and when i was coming close to maxing out my RAM usage - is there something similar on MAC?

2 options :
goto applications > utliities > app : activity monitor
or d/l the istat pro widget : http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/
it's free funky and useful

on vray 64bit you bascally cant run out of memory. it wont get slower if ram is too short and the system has to swap virtual memory, but it never goes out. same on pc or mac.

i recommend using always 64bit. all modern machines can do this. osx has all always 64bit. make sure to start c4d osx in 64bit mode!

cheers

Hey guys!

One more tip on 64 bit os x, when you starting up osx rght when white screen appears before apple logo show up you have to press 6 and 4 on keyboard, and then OS X ( snow leopard only ) will startup it's kernel fully in 64-bit.

You can double check if you runing 32 bit mode or 64 in Apple -> About This Mac - > More Info - > Software ( and there you have to find the line which says, 64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes ( that will prove you succefully booted in full 64 bit mode )

Since i have 8 gigs of ram in my mabpro, i really feel the boost in 3d aplications, and i can pretty well work with 32k x 32k 300 dpi files!

I hope i'm not to late with it and everybody already knows it :D
