Howdy, there was a request to place this post in the tutorial section,
so, at great expense to the management...

Hi, I thought I would pass on the 'benefit' of my hair-tearing to others.

After having heaps of problems getting my glass to look like neodreams beautiful render, I realised that it wasn't my glass material that was causing the problems, (which was almost identical to neodreams - whew, I'm not an idiot after all)

oh no..
make sure that your spline point sequence is correct- yup- that's what did it.

NB 'spline seq' refers to whether the point order flows clockwise or anti-clockwise, hence the graduation from blue to white is reversed in each spline image.

The glass materials are identical except for the left glass has had its spline seq reversed.
(I also found that tiny changes to the glass spline profile thickness will naturally have quite noticeable effect upon the refractive qualities)

(Thanks neodreams for your setup, hope you don't mind me using it here to make a point)
So if your glass material looks bad, or 'wrong' try reversing the order :D

first image is the incorrect order

2nd image has correct order

Thank you very much for posting it here =)

My favorite material, and who knew the point order was so important?! Thank you for figuring out this one.

one rule for objects with refraction.

1. check the normals direction

You can also check the flip normals option in the lathe nurbs. It has the same effect than reversing the sequence.
